More than 50 students attended the Honors Civic Engagement Fair & Coat Drive Kick-Off on Monday, October 5, in the UC Ballrooms!

During the event, students heard from Honors alum, Paula Havlin ’23, who returned to campus to share her experience volunteering with the Honors Coat Drive as an undergraduate. They also visited several “stations” where they learned about the importance of taking advantage of civic engagement and leadership opportunities during college, discovered ways to get involved in this year’s 20th Anniversary Honors Coat Drive, and participated in a “warm up” service project where they made 120 care packages for preschoolers at Children’s Day Preschool in Passaic. The packages included a hat, pair of gloves, and a handmade note of encouragement, and will be delivered to CDP in the next couple of weeks just as the cool weather sets in.
At the conclusion of the event, the students participated in a group reflection on what they learned and why civic engagement and leadership matters.

Special thanks to Paula Havlin for serving as a featured speaker and to the WP Student Government Association for providing funding to support this event!

Honors alumni, former and current faculty, students, and friends recently gathered from near and far, including several who traveled from across the country, to commemorate 50 years of Honors at William Paterson University!

The event featured updates from current faculty and students involved in the Honors research and creative performance tracks, a networking session where guests had the opportunity to reconnect, share stories and ideas, and build new connections, and a dinner where guests heard remarks from President Helldobler and Interim Provost Amy Ginsberg, and learned about the history of Honors from Dean Barbara Andrew.

The evening concluded with many former students and faculty members sharing personal memories and stories about the lasting impact Honors has had on their lives. Their reflections were a powerful reminder that the Honors experience reaches far beyond the classroom and stays with us for a lifetime. Here's to 50 Years of Honors at WP!

Honors is looking back at more of our 2026 graduates! We are immensely proud of the Burkes who each conducted research within different Honors Tracks. Morgan finished Humanities Honors, Jimmy finished Social Sciences Honors, and Shannon finished Business Honors. We can't wait to see where you go, Honors Pioneers!
