π±π» Growing Knowledge, Growing Community! ππ
For the past two weeks, our Appling Senior Center participants have been getting their hands dirty and their minds growing as they explored the wonderful world of agriculture!
A special thank you to local farmer Emmanuel Williams and his father for bringing a truckload of fresh soil, plants, and vegetables to help refresh our garden beds. Our seniors learned about the rich history of agriculture in Georgia, as well as practical gardening techniques for growing flowers and vegetables in raised beds, buckets, and containers.
From planting tomatoes with fresh straw to repurposing a half barrel into a brand-new okra station, our garden is thriving! Seniors even received seeds and fresh squash to take home and continue their gardening journey.
The learning didn't stop there! Ms. Quinda from Gardner Apiaries shared the fascinating world of beekeeping, teaching participants about the vital role bees play in agriculture while providing activity books and delicious samples of local honey. π―π
At Appling, we believe learning never stops, and we're grateful for the farmers, businesses, and community partners who generously share their knowledge, time, and talents with our wise ones.
Together, we're cultivating more than gardensβwe're cultivating connection, purpose, and lifelong learning. π
