What does Perkins look like beyond our Watertown campus?

For many students, it looks like a Perkins teacher providing specialized support right in their public school classroom.

Through our Community Programs, our teachers and specialists work with students who are blind, visually impaired, or deafblind across Massachusetts and New England. They help students access their curriculum, build independence, develop mobility skills, and engage with their communities.

Our team also works with families and school districts to make sure students have the support they need throughout the school year.

After two days of reconnecting, planning, and preparing, our Community Programs team is ready for a new school year supporting more than 1,200 students and their families.

We’re excited for what’s ahead and grateful for the educators who bring Perkins expertise into classrooms every day. 📚

When a student puts their head down in class, avoids eye contact, or leaves a worksheet unfinished, sometimes it’s not disinterest. Sometimes it’s Cerebral/Cortical Visual Impairment, or CVI for short. 🤔

is when the brain struggles to process what the eyes see, and it's the most common cause of blindness in children today.

But CVI isn’t widely recognized, diagnosed or understood, by educators or the medical community.

That means missed chances for education, connection, and independence.

This , join Perkins and CVI Now in the fight for earlier diagnosis, more trained professionals, and better support at every age. 💙

The stove doesn’t have to be off-limits just because someone is

Here's a few simple adaptations to make cooking safer and more accessible:
🔥 A baking pan covers hot burners, creating a barrier around the cooking area
🔘 Bump dots make stove k***s easier to locate and identify

When a child ages 0-3 in Massachusetts is diagnosed with a , Perkins’ Infant-Toddler program is the first point of contact.

And support isn’t just about helping children—it’s about the whole family too.

At our Watertown campus, parents and their little ones come together in parent-child groups to sing songs, learn through play, and connect with other families who understand this unique journey.

Because sometimes, knowing you’re not alone makes all the difference. 💙

Today, Perkins’ Infant-Toddler program serves 500 families each year, with support that takes place on campus, at home, in the community and remotely.
