Artist Statement:
“While racism and bigotry being directed toward the Asian community is not a new phenomenon, Asian hatred has been heightened by the COVID19 pandemic. The subject’s internal struggle with their identity is externalized through their hands covering their face, representing their self-consciousness and fear of being Asian. This piece depicts the grappling with, and in, a social climate where so many are persecuted and killed for their identity.”

READ UNTIL THE END
While deforestation is still a large problem, there is hope for the future of forests. With a large increase in climate activism in recent years, a lot of progress is being made to push back on deforestation practices. Conservation efforts are going in place, initiatives to replant trees are happening, and more laws are being passed to protect the natural environment. For those who want to get involved, conservation efforts in local areas are a great place to start. These efforts are working, as a recent United Nations study found that the rates of deforestation are decreasing: 10 million hectares were deforested from 2015 and 2020, compared to the 12 million that were deforested between 2010 and 2015.
🌳🌲🌴🌵

HOWEVER, the fight for environmental justice continues as some government and administrative parties/organizations are undoing the rights emplaced after decades of activism. It is more important now than ever to uphold and fight for all rights to environmental equity.
