“Egypt”

“God will fight for you…” – Exodus 14:14

Our God is a rescuer who delivers His people from their slavery, and will save us from our own struggles and sin. He will bring His people out of whatever their bo***ge is, and into freedom.

Happy Birthday today, Thursday, October 15th, to Cory Asbury (41), Florida-born Contemporary Christian, musician, singer, songwriter and former worship leader at Bethel Music.

“Mighty To Save”

“The Lord your God is in your midst, a mighty One who will save; He will rejoice over you with gladness; He will quiet you by His love; He will exult over you with loud singing.” - Zephaniah 3:17

“Who is this who comes…He who is splendid…marching in the greatness of His strength? It is God, speaking in righteousness, mighty to save.” Isaiah 63:1

Happy Birthday today, October 7th, to Michael W. Smith (69), West-Virginia-born musician, who enjoyed successes in the genres of both mainstream/inspirational pop and Contemporary Christian Music.

This song has become a praise staple in many churches, and is based heavily around Zephaniah 3:17.

What does “mighty to save,” mean? Is it about the power of God’s Word to bring hopeless, lifeless souls into a transforming encounter with God? Or is it about the sheer momentum by which God is building His kingdom, a power so great that the gates of hell cannot prevail? Or maybe it is about God’s heart for redeeming everyone?

I consider that by His might, God saved me. It's hard to fathom why a God who is able to move mountains would choose to focus His strength on redeeming the very souls who have so deeply offended Him. But this is God’s promise. Though we have done nothing to merit His favor, God, full of mercy and grace, is truly mighty to save.

This is my favorite Michael W Smith song, maybe because it’s live, and it has one of the biggest accompanying choirs I’ve ever heard.
