www.gemgreyhound.org While GEM is an adoption group, we are not an animal activist group.

GEM is Greythounds of Eastern Michigan, a pro-racing adoption group focused on the placement of retired racing greyhounds. Please refrain from posting pictures of tortured and dead animals on this page. GEM, or Greythounds of Eastern Michigan, is a pro-racing greyhound adoption group that serves eastern Michigan from the Ohio border all the way to Bay City in the north and Lansing in the west. GEM's mission is fourfold:
1. To educate the public and raise awareness about the availability and suitability of retired racing greyhounds as pets
2. To find loving and qualified homes for the greyhounds entrusted to our care
3. Provide ongoing support to those who adopted greyhounds from GEM or any other group
4. Promote harmony and cooperation between ALL segments of the worldwide greyhound community. GEM has a store that carries anything and all things that you could ever need or want. There are leashes, collars, medical and groomig supplies, notecards, books, clothing, and more. The GEM Store travels to various greyhound events throughout the country, and it is also known for it's quick shipping from online orders. https://gemstore-185419.square.site/

We've got something tasty brewed up for you! 😋

Greyhound Coffee Co. has chosen another GEM hound to represent our organization in the August Dog of the Month contest.

A portion of the proceeds from Dog of the Month Treats goes directly to GEM. Greythounds of Eastern Michigan is proud to be completely volunteer-based. This means all donations can go directly into supporting our greyhounds in foster homes. 💎🐾

Meet Bindi; she came to us from Australia through our partnership with the Aussie Mates in the States program. Bindi was adopted in 2024. She is sweet and quiet, likes to play with toys in short bursts of energy, and loves hanging out with her people. 🥰

Dear friends and followers,

Our hearts are heavy to share that one of our GEM greyhound owners has passed away, leaving his companion Speedy without his dad.

Speedy is back in the care of GEM and will now considered a forever foster. Speedy will be 10 years old next month and has some medical conditions that we are managing with medications. It is a major adjustment and Speedy is settling in well. He is currently happy and enjoying life with another GEM dog named Mudd and his family.

In the days ahead, our focus is on giving Speedy the same love, comfort, and security that his owner provided throughout their years together. We know that's exactly what Speedy's dad would have wanted for his favorite companion.

Losing a beloved owner is never easy for a dog. Our goal is to provide Speedy with stability, comfort, and all the care he needs as he adjusts to this new chapter.

If you are in a position to contribute and donate GEM would be deeply grateful. Every bit of support helps keep these pups healthy with vet care and helps ensure food and essentials remain available for our fosters.

Thank you all again for your continued kindness, generosity, participation, and belief in this organization. This community exists because of all of you. 💚💎🐾
