A Historic Moment for the Rivera Memorial Foundation and the City of Waterbury!
We are honored to announce that the Waterbury Board of Aldermen has approved the sale of the three vacant parcels to the Rivera Memorial Foundation, paving the way for a transformational community development project on Cherry Street.
We will be developing a comprehensive community campus adjacent to our existing facility at 186 Cherry Street. The professionally estimated $10-18 million project will include:
🔹 A full-size gymnasium
🔹 Multiple classrooms and learning spaces
🔹 Commercial kitchen and fitness facilities
🔹 Administrative offices and conference rooms
🔹 Enclosed outdoor playground
🔹 Dedicated bus drop-off and parking
This expansion will allow the Foundation to grow our reach from approximately 200 families served annually to more than 500 families across the City of Waterbury, a significant increase in programming capacity.
We extend our deepest gratitude to:
-The Waterbury Board of Aldermen for their thoughtful consideration and vote of confidence
-City of Waterbury - Mayor's Office and City leadership for supporting mission-driven community development
-AMENTA EMMA Architects for their visionary design work
-Our donors, volunteers, board members, and staff who have built the foundation for this expansion over 36 years of continuous service
This approval marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter. We will be launching a capital campaign to support construction, engaging with community stakeholders throughout the design process, and working closely with City officials on zoning and regulatory approvals.
We invite our community, supporters, and partners to join us on this journey. Together, we are building something remarkable for the youth and families of Waterbury.
