Are you looking for an empowering opportunity for your daughter or a young girl in your life to build self-confidence, develop leadership skills, and earn scholarship support? The Rivera Memorial Foundation, Inc. is thrilled to announce that registration is now officially live for the 𝑴𝒊𝒔𝒔 𝑹𝒊𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒂 & 𝑯𝒖𝒈𝒉𝒆𝒔 𝑴𝒆𝒎𝒐𝒓𝒊𝒂𝒍 𝑷𝒂𝒓𝒌 𝑺𝒄𝒉𝒐𝒍𝒂𝒓𝒔𝒉𝒊𝒑 𝑷𝒂𝒈𝒆𝒂𝒏𝒕!

This program is open to all girls in the Greater Waterbury area across five age divisions:

✨ Tiny Miss: Ages 5–7

✨ Little Miss: Ages 8–9

✨ Miss Pre-Teen: Ages 10–12

✨ Miss Teen: Ages 13–15 ($500 Scholarship)

✨ Miss: Ages 16–19 ($1,000 Scholarship)

We are filled with gratitude and excitement to extend a heartfelt THANK YOU to the Social Equity Council and United Way of Greater Waterbury for their generous support of the Rivera Memorial Foundation through the R2 Grant Program!

Because of this incredible investment in our community, we are proud to power our High School Internship Program. Providing Waterbury high school students with hands-on, real-world work experience, professional mentorship, and career pathway opportunities.

Through this initiative, our local students are gaining invaluable experience serving as:
🔹 Tutors & Mentors guiding youth in our after-school programs
🔹 Community Health Interns gaining experience at StayWell Health Center
🔹 Public Service Interns supporting patron services at the Silas Bronson Library
🔹 Legal Interns learning the ins and outs of the legal field with the Defronzo & Petroskey, PC Injury Lawyers

As we watch our current interns thrive, we are also looking toward the future! We truly hope to partner with even more local businesses and organizations in the months ahead to expand our network and open up new, diverse placement opportunities for our students.
By building bridges between our youth and top local partners, we aren't just teaching skills…we're cultivating the next generation of Waterbury’s leaders, innovators, and changemakers.

We are deeply honored and profoundly grateful to the McCarthy family for entrusting the Rivera Memorial Foundation with the stewardship of a very special scholarship established in memory of their beloved daughter, 𝑱𝒐𝒂𝒏𝒏𝒂 𝑴𝒂𝒓𝒊𝒆 𝑴𝒄𝑪𝒂𝒓𝒕𝒉𝒚.

Affectionately known as "Miss Jojo," Joanna was a lifelong Waterbury resident, a dedicated educator and paraprofessional, and a passionate advocate for children whose vibrant life was tragically cut short in 2016 at just 26 years old. A proud graduate of W.F. Kaynor Technical High School and Central Connecticut State University, Joanna planned to pursue her master's degree in teaching to continue making a profound difference in the lives of young people.

Through the newly established Joanna Marie McCarthy Memorial Scholarship, her dedication to education, compassion, and community-mindedness will live on. This scholarship will support deserving students in pursuing their educational goals and achieving their dreams—ensuring that Miss Jojo’s legacy continues to represent love, learning, and the true importance of giving back.

Thank you, McCarthy family, for allowing us to help keep her beautiful spirit and memory alive in our community. 💜✨
