The one thing that is consistent is that every adult in Scouting (Scouters) is required to take Youth Protection Training and retake it every 2 years. It takes almost 1.5 hours online. Parents and Scouts are also trained. Without it you cannot register in Scouting. Scouting takes the protection of youth seriously. So do we as leaders. Most of us were or are parents of youth and will only tolerate a safe program. When considering a Scout unit for your children be sure to ask how that unit adheres to and monitors their controls over youth protection. They will all be trained as it’s required. Look beyond that. Look for 100% commitment. Look for every and always in their language toward protection. Look for open meetings, no 1:1, 2 deep adult leadership, and awareness the leaders are mandatory reporters.
