Grassroots organization founded in 1980 that monitors, protects and enhances the Neuse & Tar-Pamlico Rivers and the Pamlico Sound, while pursuing environmental justice. Sound Rivers is a grassroots organization working with members and volunteers to ensure the natural beauty of the Tar-Pamlico and Neuse Rivers and their tributaries are there for enjoyment today and for generations to come. The org

anization and its members work to protect and restore water quality in the rivers and watershed for the benefit of all. The organization encourages sustainable use of the public's waterways, and sponsors programs to introduce more people to these rivers.

Swim Guide results are in! Only 6 out of 48 sites failed this week, based on the EPA standard for ecoli in recreational waters. The sites that failed are Slocum Creek, Trent Woods, Plum Point, Bonners Point, Dinah’s Landing, and Havens Garden. For more info check out the link in our bio!

eNews is OUT! And so is the Edgecombe County Data Center Advisory Commitee's report. County commissioners got it this week. Pamlico-Tar Riverkeeper Katey was there for the delivery.
West Craven Middle School stormwater infrastructure got some warning signs, and Program Director Clay took a really cool video, mid-thunderstorm, of WCMS's rain garden doing its thing!
Our intrepid water quality specialist, Taylor, had a second wildlife encounter that was ... really WILD.
Oh, and don't forget Katey and Aurora Mayor Curt Hendrix are hosting a paddle on Bailey's Creek in Aurora on Saturday morning!

Join the Water Watch team! On Wednesday, June 17, join Pamlico-Tar Riverkeeper Katey Zimmerman for this in-person training in Rocky Mount, where you’ll learn everything you need to know to be a part of Sound Rivers Water Watch.
Get trained in the field to collect scientific observations about water quality, flooding, erosion, habitat and more. With your help, your Riverkeeping team can monitor and protect more stream miles in the Neuse and Tar-Pamlico watersheds, and build a community of volunteers who know their water-quality science!

It's eNews day, and the news is good and bad ...
GOOD: It appears the spill of millions of gallons of raw sewage into Turkey Creek has resolved itself (with the help of Raleigh Water crews flushing the creek out with freshwater)!
BAD: Rocky Mount City Council postponed the vote that would pave the way for a data center AGAIN. Here's how it goes: they put out the agenda two days before the meeting, then they take it off the agenda at the meeting. 🙄
