On Monday night, Democracy on Screen presented Words of War, directed by James Strong and starring Maxine Peake as Anna Politkovskaya.
Presented just after World Press Freedom Day, the screening was an opportunity to reflect on the importance of a free and independent press at a time when reliable information feels increasingly fragile.
Through the story of Anna Politkovskaya, the film also reminds us of the very real risks journalists continue to face around the world in order to report the truth.
A warm thank you to producer Maxey for joining us, to from The Atlantic for sharing his perspective as a veteran international journalist, and to Schwartz from the for moderating the discussion.
Thank you as well to our partner, NYU’s John Brademas Center, and to everyone who joined us for the evening.
And congratulations to the French in Motion DC team — our president Doyle, Bréton, and Moussali — for another meaningful edition of Democracy on Screen, always on deck to make these conversations happen.

French in Motion is thrilled to announce the U.S. television premiere of a remarkable project by our L.A. member, producer Myriam Brough (California Prod).

To celebrate what would have been the 100th birthday of the "King of the B-movie," TCM is dedicating a special evening to Roger Corman.

Save the Dates:
TCM USA: April 3 @ 8:00 PM ET (with multiple replays in April)
TCM France: April 5 @ Prime Time

"He remembered that France was the first country to recognize him as a true auteur," recalls Myriam Brough.

Described by Corman himself as his "cinematic testament," the film beautifully bridges the gap between Hollywood history and international audiences.

Congratulations to Brough and the team at Prod on this prestigious national broadcast!
