Formed in 1982, MAPPS is the only national association exclusively comprised of private firms in the remote sensing, spatial data and geographic information systems field in and firms with business interests in the United States.

Submit your entry and showcase your firm’s signature project(s) in the 2026 Excellence Awards program. Each year MAPPS sponsors the nation’s largest competition to feature the best geospatial projects completed over the past year (January 1, 2025 – May 31, 2026). A distinguished panel of impartial judges will evaluate each submission from five categories:
• Data Acquisition and Processing (includes Aerial Photogrammetry, Satellite, Radar, and Airborne, Bathymetric, and Mobile LiDAR)
• Surveying/Field Data Collection (includes Terrestrial Scanning and Ground Penetrating Radar)
• GIS/IT/Remote Sensing Analysis
• Small Projects (cannot exceed $200,000 in professional services)
• Technology Innovation/Licensed Data Products

Gaussian splatting is rapidly gaining attention as a new way to create highly realistic 3D representations from imagery. But beyond impressive visualization, what can Gaussian splats actually be used for in photogrammetry?
