Walla Walla Alliance for the Homeless

Walla Walla Alliance for the Homeless The Alliance for the Homeless manages the Walla Walla Sleep Center, a low barrier shelter. We serve more than 60 individuals on a given night.

The Alliance also offers showers, food, and ongoing peer support to help navigate the path out of homelessness. Alliance for the Homeless, seeking to provide transitional housing, responded to the need for a campsite for homeless Walla Wallans August 2016. May 2017 the Alliance reached an agreement with the City of Walla Walla to provide management and volunteers for the City's Sleep Center, replacing the campsite. The Alliance also provides other homeless resources and services.

We have received some incredible support this year, and with our food systems and funding being more and more stressed, this support is more important than ever. We are going to be highlighting some of the amazing grant funders that have made this possible over the coming weeks.

The first is the Wildhorse Foundation. This year they gave us a $20,000 grant to assist with our food purchases and consumable goods. This means that even as food banks have less to distribute, we are able to keep feeding the most vulnerable in our community. This constitutes more than 60 people each day, three times per day...more than 65,000 meals per year. So, thank you Wildhorse, from the bottom of our hearts!

More on the Wildhorse Foundation:
Each year, the Wildhorse Foundation makes grants to eligible nonprofit, government, and Tribal organizations within the homeland area of the Cayuse, Umatilla, and Walla Walla people.

Also eligible for funding are Tribal government agencies or Indian charitable organizations with their base of operations within Oregon, as well as national or regional Indian organizations.

The Wildhorse Foundation has awarded a total of over $18 million in grant funding since its establishment in 2001. Grants are awarded on a quarterly basis with the deadlines being January
1, April 1, July 1, and October 1. For more information, visit the Foundation’s website at

The Wildhorse Foundation was founded in 2001 for the purpose of formalizing the charitable giving on behalf of the CTUIR and Wildhorse Resort & Casino. The Wildhorse Foundation works to build strong communities and healthy families in our giving area through this philanthropy.

If you're looking for ways to help, here is a great place to start! We are now serving more than 60 people each night, and while our blanket stores are well stocked, our sheets are running low.

Thank you to the City of Walla Walla Government for partnering with us in this important work. This expansion will help to serve those who need it most.

Well, would you look at that...nine beautiful new huts, a portable restroom, a new Pallet Shelter unit, and a resident laundry facility!

This means no more porta-potties in the camp, no more trekking across town for laundry, and a few less people turned away each night.

Thank you to the City of Walla Walla Government for helping us with state grant funding, to Walla Walla County Department of Community Health for more of the same, to The Sherwood Trust, and to the generosity of our incredible supporters. When you give, we do. And when that happens, it means we get to better serve more people.

Thank you Walla Walla!
