The Intercultural Center is proud to announce Sara Little class of ‘22, as the recipient of the David Nord Award this Spring. The David Nord Award is presented annually to support LGBTQIA+ focused projects on campus. This award encourages the Whitman community to engage critical issues facing LGBTQIA+ communities through a variety of creative and scholarly mediums.

Sara will be working over the summer and next fall on a project titled, Crafting a Q***r Ecology: Art of a Q***r Nature

“Winning the David Nord Award has given me the opportunity to develop an interdisciplinary project that is directly aligned with my passions and identity. Creating an art exhibit on q***r ecology will force questions within our community on what is “natural,” and build an appreciation and understanding of the diverse sexualities and gender expression presented, or absent, in nature. Through this project, I hope to learn more about myself as a curious, q***r artist, and expose others to the joy of a fluid and personal natural world.

This project will be collaborative, so if there are any artistic students who are part of the LGBTQ+ community and wish to participate, then keep an eye out!”

With the rise of social media and the political climate of the past four years, we've experienced a rapid increase in polarization and the demonization of those who have opposing views from our own. Step out of your silo and reach out, in a human way, across differences and opinions. RSVP Today for Depolarizing Within: bit.ly/unityworkshop21

Tuesday, January 26th
4 pm-6:30 pm PST

Become more aware of your own "inner polarizer”.
Be critical without dismissing or stereotyping large swaths of the population.
Gain strategies for intervening constructively in social conversations with like-minded peers when these conversations veer into contempt and ridicule for people who hold other political views.

DM if you have questions or trouble accessing the RSVP form.
