Rotary Club of Wagoner Ok

Rotary Club of Wagoner Ok Founded in 1948, the Wagoner Rotary Club is a group of leaders committed to Service Above Self. Currently, we have 27 active members and 7 honorary members.

The Wagoner Rotary Club 2503 is in District 6110 and was founded in 1948. We meet on Tuesdays at noon at Wagoner Community Hospital. Some of our fundraising efforts include the Annual Pancake Day, the Summerfest Burger Booth and event program advertising, and our holiday pie sales. We also take an active role in supporting community projects such as CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate), Wagoner

Community Outreach, Wagoner Area Neighbors, donating Christmas gifts, shoes and school supplies to local schools for students in need. We sponsor students to RYLA, Boys and Girls State, and students overseas and abroad. We purchase and distribute dictionaries to 3rd graders and conduct a Choices Program at the high school. Through Rotary International, we donate to the Heifer Projects, Medical Supply Network, Polio Plus, and partner in building water wells overseas.

🗣️Shout out to our guest speaker today. Don Neal, Jr. - Wagoner County Assessor.
🇺🇸This is Don’s first campaign for a political office. A county-wide campaign and when Don entered the arena not a single challenger threw his/her hat in the ring! That’s quite a statement.
🐾WHS tidbit: Don is a 1985 Grad & I’m an ‘86 grad. His grandmother, Una Neal, was my childhood neighbor.
The Oklahoma State Statutes are very specific about how the county operates and how funds must be accounted for and expended. The majority of these laws appear in Title 19 and 68.

🗣️Today’s guest speaker, Ryan Haynie, is the Vice President for Legal Affairs for the Oklahoma Council of Public Affairs.
🇺🇸 He litigates cases involving free speech and other constitutional rights in both state and federal courts.
🇺🇸 In 2024, Ryan helped develop OCPA’s Judicial Scorecard. Like OCPA’s Legislative Scorecard, it helps to educate Oklahomans on what the third branch of government is doing. The Judicial Scorecard scores Oklahoma’s Supreme Court justices based on how they conform to the rule of law, separation of powers, and sound textual interpretation.
🇺🇸Today, he spoke to our club regarding State Question 832.
🇺🇸 “Because counties, municipalities, and school districts are not excluded, a fiscal impact on the State will result, possibly necessitating a revenue increase by new taxes or elimination of existing services,” the ballot language for SQ 832 declares.
🇺🇸 In a May 17 column in The Lawton Constitution, J.J. Francais, mayor of Elgin, called SQ 832 a “nuclear disaster disguised as humanitarian aid.”
🇺🇸 More than 100 state lawmakers, including House Speaker Kyle Hilbert and Senate President Pro Tempore Lonnie Paxton, recently released a letter urging voters to oppose State Question 832.
🇺🇸 State Sen. Adam Pugh, an Edmond Republican who chairs the Senate Education Committee, told Oklahoma Voice that SQ 832 will be an “unfunded mandate” for public schools.

Today we learned that long-time Wagoner Community Hospital gastroenterologist Dr. Leon Yoder started his career as an atomic physicist before realizing that helping people stay healthy would be more rewarding that building atomic bomb detonators. Along his way to the internal medicine subspeciality, he also spent time delivering babies and tending to veterans. We thank Dr. Yoder for his service to the Wagoner community.
Also, a thank you to incoming Wagoner Rotary President Dr. David Good for leading this week's meeting while current President Rick Moore was handing out scholarship checks and honorariums to deserving Wagoner High School graduating seniors.
