The wait is over! Tonight is the 5th Annual WRAP Ruby Gala, and we couldn’t be more excited to celebrate an evening filled with hope, purpose, and community! ❤️

Recovery isn’t a straight line. 🤍

Most people picture it like a ramp. You decide to get better, and every day is a little better than the one before it. So when a hard day shows up, or a hard week, it feels like proof that it isn’t working.

It isn’t. That’s just what the real line looks like. It climbs, it dips, it climbs again. The dips are part of the shape, not the end of it.

A few things worth hearing today:

🔴 A setback doesn’t erase what came before it. The ninety days you had still happened.
🔴 You can start again at any hour. You don’t have to wait for a Monday or a January.
🔴 Needing help again isn’t failing. It’s the whole reason support exists.
🔴 The people who make it are not the ones who never dipped. They’re the ones who kept going after they did.

If today is one of the low points on your line, you are still on the line. Keep going.

There is help and there is hope with the WRAP Project. The WRAP Project helps with substance use disorder, opioid use disorder and stimulant use disorder. They provide recovery classes for the members of the community that need help. They offer help with prevention such as: Narcan, Narcan training, deterra disposal packs, and medication lockboxes with no charge to the community. Narcan is an over-the-counter opioid overdose treatment. Medication lockboxes are used for the safe storage of medication, keeping them out of the wrong hands. Unused medications can be disposed of properly with deterra disposal packs. Any members of the community needing any of these prevention items can be picked up at WRAP project locations. WRAP Project serves Cherokee, Wagoner, Adair and Sequoyah counties. Almost nobody wakes up and decides to risk addiction.

It usually starts somewhere ordinary. A surgery. A back injury. A wisdom tooth. A prescription that worked exactly like it was supposed to, until the bottle ran out and the pain did not.

That is what makes opioids different from what most people picture. The path in is often a doctor’s office, not a bad decision.

And it is more common than most of us assume. Here is who misuses prescription pain relievers in a given year in the United States:

🔴 Ages 12 to 17: 1.6%
🔴 Ages 18 to 25: 2.7%
🔴 Ages 26 and up: 2.9%

Look at that order again. We talk about this like it is a teenager problem. The highest rate is adults, people with jobs and mortgages and kids in the back seat. That is 6.6 million adults 26 and older in one year.

Which means the person this happens to is probably someone you already know. A coworker. A parent at practice. Someone in your pew. Nobody announces it, so it stays invisible until something goes wrong.

Two things worth doing today: lock up the medication in your house, and get rid of what you are not using. Those two steps close the most common door this walks through.

Join us for National Prescription Drug Take Back Day and safely dispose of prescription medications to help prevent misuse, accidental poisoning, and environmental contamination.

Most people keep a first aid kit in the car and hope to never use it. Narcan belongs in that same category. 🚨

Fentanyl turns up in counterfeit pills and mixed into other substances, so people are often exposed without knowing it. Here is what matters about naloxone, sold as Narcan:

🔴 It reverses opioid overdoses, including fentanyl.
🔴 It does nothing if opioids are not the cause, so you cannot hurt someone by trying.
🔴 Nobody can use it on themselves. Someone nearby has to.

That last point is the reason to carry it. It only saves a life when an ordinary person has it at the moment it is needed.

If you suspect an overdose:
1️⃣ Call 911 first. Narcan wears off before the opioid does.
2️⃣ Give one full spray into one nostril.
3️⃣ Roll them on their side and watch their breathing.
4️⃣ Give another dose if there is no response in 2 to 3 minutes.

Get trained. Carry it. Glovebox, diaper bag, gym bag, desk drawer. 💜

Nobody tries something for no reason. When kids are asked why, the answers are pretty consistent, and none of them is "I wanted to become addicted." 👻💜

1️⃣ Stress.
School, home, work, all of it. If a kid doesn't have a way to handle a hard week, they'll find one. Give them better options before they go looking.

2️⃣ Boredom.
Empty hours get filled with something. That's exactly why after school programs, teams, clubs, and part time jobs are prevention work, even when nobody says the word "drugs."

3️⃣ Curiosity.
Kids are supposed to be curious. If the adults won't answer honestly, the internet and their friends will, and those answers are usually worse.

4️⃣ Wanting to belong.
This one is the biggest. A kid who already belongs somewhere has a lot less reason to buy their way into a group.

5️⃣ Thinking everyone else is doing it.
Most teens are not using. Kids consistently overestimate how many of their peers drink or v**e, and that false picture makes it feel normal. Telling them the real number actually lowers risk.

Here's what matters about this list: four of the five are things the adults around a kid can do something about. The reason behind it is usually the thing worth addressing.
