May 1 – International Workers’ Day

May Day isn’t just a date, it’s a declaration. Here in the states, we celebrate Labor Day. But in many places across the globe, today is the day for workers. A day for union pride.

Born from struggle, this day represents workers across the globe who fought, and still fight, for dignity, fair wages, and respect.

Here in New Jersey, AFSCME members carry that same fight forward every day, keeping our communities running and standing strong for what we’ve earned.

Solidarity has no borders!

Today, our Staff Representative and I were invited to attend the Ribbon Cutting Ceremony at Crest Haven Nursing Home & Rehabilitation Center / Allaire Health Services.

Being part of this moment was truly meaningful. I remember when the County made the decision to privatize Crest Haven, and the dedicated employees chose to stand together and unionize. Today, I’m proud to say that this private sector workforce remains a strong part of our AFSCME Local 3596 family.

Awol has been alongside me since the very beginning, long before becoming our State Staff Representative and it was incredibly special to stand together again and witness this beautiful transformation.

Connecting with our members and seeing the continued commitment to providing quality care and services to our community is nothing short of inspiring.

A special shoutout to our very own Executive Board Member Nena Wise, Recording Secretary Caitlin Kelly, and Michelle Bingnear, Shop Steward—who not only help our local libraries run strong for our community, but also help keep this union strong for our members. We thank you!
