Susan Eisenhower, General Eisenhower's granddaughter.
I had the honor of meeting President Eisenhower's granddaughter 'Susan Eisenhower' after the Cape May MAC’s Lessons of History Distinguished Lecture Series.
Her book is “How Ike Led.”
The Quote on the front of the book says it all! “Susan Eisenhower lays out the essence of her grandfather’s leadership in war and peace – his singular devotion to the unity and security of the American people and the nation’s allies.” – The Wall Street Journal.
This meant a lot to me because I serve on the Board of the nonprofit organization “The Longest Yarn USA”

The Longest Yarn debuted in Carentan, France, on June 6, 2024, commemorating the 80th Anniversary of D-Day. The 80-meter tapestry, inspired by the 1962 film The Longest Day, features 80 panels depicting the events of June 6, 1944, from preparations in England to the Allied invasion of Normandy. Guided by historians, the exhibition captures the courage, sacrifice, and humanity of this pivotal moment in history.
After its European tour, The Longest Yarn Exhibition debuted in America at the Naval Air Station Wildwood Aviation Museum in Cape May County on June 6, 2025. It later welcomed tens of thousands of visitors at the WWII American Experience Museum and Education Center in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, and the Military Aviation Museum in Virginia Beach, Virginia, before returning to Carentan.
To share this remarkable story with an even wider audience, The Longest Yarn, Cape May, a local nonprofit, partnered with American Veterans Media to produce the documentary A THREAD THROUGH HISTORY. Through art, history, and personal stories, the film honors the generation that fought for freedom and the people around the world dedicated to preserving their legacy.
