Tri-Town YMCA

Tri-Town YMCA Tri-Town YMCA provides programs and activities that promote youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility.

We know that lasting personal and social change comes about when we all work together. That’s why, at the Y, strengthening community is our cause. Every day, we work side-by-side with our neighbors to make sure that everyone, regardless of age, income or background, has the opportunity to learn, grow and thrive.

Today, I took part in a special piñata workshop. Not only did I create something using paper, colors, and creativity, but I also learned that a piñata can hold a beautiful meaning.
In this workshop, we learned that the piñata’s cones represent life’s challenges. These challenges might involve learning something new, waiting our turn, sharing, listening, respecting others, helping out, or not giving up when things get difficult.
We also learned that the candy or fruit spilling out of the piñata represents the rewards of practicing good values—such as friendship, love, joy, peace, unity, hope, and trust.
That is why each child decorated their piñata with colors and words representing values such as:
Respect, Friendship, Joy, Love, Family, Unity, Peace, Kindness, Gratitude, Honesty, Courage, and Hope.
