We're just one week removed from the 2026 RTA Conference in Fort Lauderdale, and we're already looking ahead to Nashville!

Planning is underway for the 2027 RTA Conference, October 17–20 at the JW Marriott Nashville, with great presentations, fun optional activities, lots of networking opportunities, and much more in store.

And while Nashville is on deck, we've already secured our conference destinations through 2030! Go ahead and mark your calendars; we hope to see you at each stop along the way!

In its latest Capitol Connection update, the National Hardwood Lumber Association (NHLA) shared updates on two major efforts by its Crossroads Strategies Task Force:

1. Proposed Executive Actions: The Task Force submitted a framework of recommendations to the Trump Administration using existing executive authority to address challenges facing the hardwood industry. Most proposed actions have timelines of 30 to 90 days and cover trade, natural resource policy, federal purchasing, enforcement, labeling, health and safety, and more.

2. Strong American Wood (SAW) Act: Introduced in Congress by Rep. Bruce Westerman (R-AR), the proposed SAW Act seeks to address unfair trade, strengthen government Buy American requirements, protect critical hardwood supply chains, including wood crossties, and expand market opportunities for domestic hardwood products.

RTA appreciates NHLA's work to bring attention to the challenges facing the hardwood industry and the importance of domestic wood production.

RTA Executive Director Dr. Nate Irby was honored last weekend as Mississippi State University's 2026 Alumni Fellow for the College of Forest Resources.

Nate is pictured here alongside fellow honorees from other MSU colleges and University President Dr. Mark E. Keenum. The weekend's festivities also included cheering on the Bulldogs as they took on the University of Oklahoma.

RTA and the entire wood tie community couldn't be prouder of you, Nate! We're so happy to see you recognized for your commitment to the forest products industry.

Happy Monday from RTA!

What a week in Fort Lauderdale! A sincere thank you to everyone who joined us for the 2026 RTA Annual Conference, and to our exhibitors and sponsors for their support. We missed those who couldn't attend and hope to see you in Nashville next year!

As we kick off a new week, RTA Executive Director Dr. Nate Irby has a special message to share, along with an introduction to his new video series, "Choose Happiness." Through these videos, Nate hopes to share a little inspiration while reminding us of the importance of coming together to grow, learn and share.

And speaking of sharing, your conference feedback matters! We've already incorporated attendee suggestions into our plans for Nashville in 2027, and we want to hear more.

If you attended, please take a few minutes to log in to the RTA Events app and complete the overall conference survey on the home page. You can also provide feedback on individual presentations by clicking into each session. The surveys are brief and include space for your comments and suggestions.

RTA was delighted to welcome Cassie Dull, Chief Commercial Officer of Pinsly Railroad Company, as our Railroad Executive Keynote Speaker at the 2026 RTA Annual Conference!

Cassie shared her thoughts on the important role Pinsly plays in the communities they serve—connecting people, supporting local economies, and being an integral part of the towns along their routes.

RTA would like to thank Hardwood Manufacturers Association Executive Vice President Ian Faight, right, for participating in the HMA - Hardwood Marketplace Perspectives panel alongside respected industry leaders Skipper Beal, Truss Beasley, and Mike Noland (left).

While panelists shared some tough realities about today’s hardwood marketplace, the discussion was insightful and generated plenty of questions from attendees.

It’s always a pleasure to welcome RTA’s Past Presidents to our Annual Conference!
