The headline in the July 3, 1926 edition of This Week in Venice was that Venice was going to become the center of the nation’s bulb industry. 💡

This was followed by a story of the upcoming first Tarpon Tournament. But nowhere was mention of the fact that Venice had become incorporated on July 1, 1926. 🤩

It is on this date that the area and community of Venice was incorporated into the Town of Venice. So happy 100th birthday to Venice! 🎂

Enjoy the celebratory activities and parade this Saturday as we honor our 100th birthday along with the country’s 250th. And no, there will be no bulbs included in the activities. 🇺🇸

Celebrate Independence Day the hometown way! Join the City of Venice and Venice MainStreet, Inc. on Saturday, July 4 for a patriotic Community Picnic celebrating both America 250 and the City of Venice's Centennial!

In West Blalock Park from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., enjoy family fun with a DJ, yard games, co****le, giant Connect Four, ladder ball, mini golf, obstacle course, hair tinsel and more!

🍉 Watermelon Eating Contest (All Ages): 11:30 a.m. | Noon | 12:30 p.m. | 1 p.m.
🥔 Potato Sack Races (Ages 4+): 10:30 a.m. | 11:30 a.m. | 12:30 p.m.
💪 Tug-of-War (Ages 4+): 10 a.m. | 11 a.m. | Noon

Inside the Venice Community Center from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., stop by the selfie station, grab a coloring book, hand fans, free face painting, balloon twisting, airbrush tattoos, $2.50 hot dogs and more:

🧠 Patriotic Trivia: 11:15-11:40 a.m.
