Due to the recent storms, the trails at John Merle Coulter Nature Preserve are temporarily CLOSED.

While Coulter is closed, all other public preserves remain open. We will continue to monitor conditions and post updates as soon as things dry out. Please check back on our social channels before planning your next visit. Stay safe! 🌿

If you like birds and art, join us and the Chesterton Art Center for a Bird Illustration workshop! 🐦🎨 This workshop is designed for adults aged 18+, and all skill levels are welcome.

Together, we will begin the day outdoors at the Walner Nature Preserve, where Bella will lead a hike as our group observes local birds. Then, we'll head to the Chesterton Art Center for a bird illustration workshop. Local artist Jen Aitchison will guide participants as they observe, sketch, and stylize avian forms over the course of the 90-minute workshop.

⚠️ Please note that this is a paid class, and spots are limited. Tuition is $25 for non-members of the Chesterton Art Center, or $22.50 for current members. The class fees support the Art Center and cover the instructor and materials costs. All supplies will be included.

Join us at Seidner Dune & Swale on Tuesday, June 23rd, to lend a hand in removing any litter that has accumulated! 🚯 This easy volunteer workday helps us ensure that all members of our communities can enjoy the preserve at its best. We will provide all necessary material and gear, but we recommend bringing a reusable water bottle.

Celebrate the arrival of summer at Meadowbrook with us and the Duneland Family YMCA! ☀️🧘‍♂️

We'll begin with a 60-minute instructed yoga session at the Amphitheater, during which we'll welcome light, energy, and renewal. Afterwards, participants will be invited to continue the experience with a 60-minute guided mindfulness hike. We'll explore nearby trails at a relaxed pace while focusing on breath, awareness, and connecting with the sights and sounds of the season. Both activities are suitable for all experience levels, including beginners.

Join us to greet the longest day of the year with intention, movement, and connection! 🥰 Please bring your own yoga mat or towel and a water bottle. We encourage you to wear comfortable clothing and walking shoes.

It's time for the next step in our Grow One, Keep One program! 🌱 Now that the seedlings sprouted are tall enough to leave their milk jug greenhouses, we'll be working to transplant the seedlings into flats. They'll continue to grow there until they're ready to be planted in a few months.

Together, we'll read "Backyard Fairies" by Phoebe Wahl, then explore the outdoors, imagining where fairies might live and what they might need to thrive. Before we wrap up, we'll create our own fairy homes and nature-inspired crafts using found materials, celebrating creativity, curiosity, and the magic of the outdoors. ✨

Did you take home native seedlings in milk jugs for our Grow One, Keep One program? If so, it's time to bring half of the seedlings back to Meadowbrook as we prepare to transplant them! 🌱

You can choose which half of your seedlings you'd like to keep and which you'd like to return to Meadowbrook for planting. We'll have signage posted indicating where to drop off the jugs you've decided to return on Saturday, June 13th.
