Offering summer overnight camp & year-round camping opportunities. Owned & operated by Girl Scouts of Greater Chicago and Northwest Indiana.

Camp Butternut Springs is accredited by the American Camp Association. Camp Butternut Springs is located just outside of Valparaiso, Indiana. It’s in the perfect spot being both in the backyard of our members in Indiana as well as being easy to get to from just about anywhere in the Chicago region. The camp has an archery range, high adventure course, swimming pool, and shower house, a pond for bo

ating, and numerous hiking trails. If you’re entering grades 1 – 12, we’ve got a spot just for you. All programs include the outdoor activities you love; swimming, cookouts, songs, campfires and making new friends. Learn to work together solving problems and making decisions while hiking around camp or trying out the low-element challenge course. Progressive outdoor skills and backcountry trip opportunities give girls the opportunities to try new things in a natural environment. Campers sleep in buildings/lodges or platform tents depending on program. Staff also sleep in the buildings/lodges or nearby tents. All living areas will include modern restroom facilities.

Looking for a way to enjoy the beautiful weather with your Girl Scout friends and family? We have extended registration for our Campfire Songs and S’mores event at Camp Palos! Join us this Friday, April 17 to roast a toasty and tasty s’more and to sing your favorite Girl Scout camp songs.

Belt out the classics and pick up a few new favorites while dancing around the campfire. Then experience the magic of camp by roasting a marshmallow over the fire to make yourself a delicious s'more! Voting has officially started for the 2026 Girl Scouts of Greater Chicago and Northwest Indiana Summer Camp T-Shirt! The Summer Camp T-Shirt is an incredibly important part of the traditions and excitement unique to Girl Scout Summer Camp, and we're so excited to have our members and community be a part of this process once again. ✨

Back in November, we had over 30 shirt designs created by Girl Scout youth members who felt inspired by their memories of camping, friendship, and the great outdoors. Flash forward to today where we are now down to TWO designs inspired by our incredibly creative and talented Girl Scouts. 👩‍🎨
