The Salinians of Northern California, Inc.

The Salinians of Northern California, Inc. The word “SALINIANS” is derived from a name attributed to residents of Rosario (Salinas), Cavite, a town in the Tagalog region of the Philippines.

Before the town was named after our Patroness Saint, Nuestra Señora del Rosario, it was commonly known as "Salinas" by many. Each May and October, it has been a tradition that the townspeople of "Salinas" hold festivities to honor our Patroness Saint. In May, we celebrate the month of Mary by "Flores de Mayo". In October, we celebrate the Feast of the Most Holy Rosary and commemorate our town's fo

unding anniversary. In March of 1981, a group of SALINIAN immigrants formed its chapter in the Bay Area to continue this tradition from back home. Our very first Annual Salinas Fiesta was held on October 4, 1981, at the Holy Spirit Parish Center in Fremont, California. The founding president was Pascual Pinpin. Many "kababayans" from Salinas came from all over the Bay Area to witness and support this grand celebration. From then on, our Salinas Fiesta Celebration is always held every first Saturday of October. As the years pass by, the Salinians Community in the Bay Area grew and many have participated since the beginning. We were finally incorporated as a non-profit organization in January of 1987. Our annual festivities include some traditional practices that was passed down to us by our forefathers, such as:
- Reciting the Holy Rosary (reflecting on the important events in the life of Jesus and Mary)
- "Karakol" (street dancing in honor of our Patroness Saint in the tune of the "Pandanggo" played by the brass band)
- "Prusisyon" (candlelight procession and reciting the Rosary)
- "Alayan" (flower offering in commemoration of the "Flores de Mayo")
- "Salu-salo" (eating and sharing a feast together with our fellow "kababayans")

All throughout the day, devotees offer prayers of thanksgiving to Our Lord God and recite the ROSARY---our symbol of hope for world peace, as well as inner peace.
