We are less than one week away from our DVAM Event: Community Conversation with Lavon Morris-Grant! 💜

Lavon Morris-Grant is a proud graduate of Full Sail University, where she earned a master’s degree in digital marketing, graduating valedictorian and Summa Cum Laude with a 4.0 GPA. As an entrepreneur, international speaker, consultant, and digital marketing strategist, she develops innovative solutions across social justice, small business, political activism, and holistic healing. A survivor of a life-threatening domestic violence tragedy, Lavon transformed her experiences into her first memoir, Whom Shall I Fear: A Spiritual Journey of a Battered Woman. Her story has since taken her to national and international stages, including Spelman and Morehouse Colleges, Miami School of Law, domestic violence coalitions, faith-based and military institutions, and law enforcement and judicial organizations. She has also spoken in Canada, Australia, the Virgin Islands, and Puerto Rico, and was invited to speak alongside Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton at a White House press conference advocating for the enforcement of domestic violence protective orders.

In 2014, Lavon released her second memoir, Who Will Speak for My Children: Healing Through the Trauma, which explores the lasting effects of trauma and homelessness and how she and her three children survived, recovered, and thrived through devastating experiences. Today, Lavon uses her personal and professional experiences to challenge systems, educate communities about the lasting effects of trauma, and advocate for holistic healing, dignity, and hope. In addition to her expertise in digital marketing, she is a storyteller, racial equity trainer, and personal and professional life coach dedicated to helping individuals, communities, and organizations thrive.

Join us for an afternoon of civic education with Hennepin County Attorney candidates Anders Folk and Cedrick Frazier.

This forum will focus on issues affecting our community, including domestic and sexual violence, human trafficking, general crime, and child wellness. The Hennepin County Attorney’s Office is responsible for charging and prosecuting crimes, while the County Attorney also serves as the county’s legal counsel, representing and protecting the interests of Hennepin County.

Hear directly from the candidates about their approaches and priorities on these issues, ask questions, and learn more about the role of the County Attorney before casting your vote.

We are honored to welcome Lavon Morris-Grant, who will share her perspective on systems change, centering survivors’ voices, and the power of lived experience.

Lavon Morris-Grant is a seasoned entrepreneur, international speaker, consultant, and digital marketing strategist whose work spans social justice, advocacy, holistic healing, and organizational transformation.

Her commitment to this work is deeply personal. Years ago, Ms. Morris-Grant survived a life-threatening domestic violence experience during her 10-year marriage. As she navigated the trauma that followed, she discovered her gift for writing and authored her first memoir, Whom Shall I Fear: A Spiritual Journey of a Battered Woman. Her story soon led to opportunities to speak at colleges, law schools, domestic violence organizations, coalitions, and faith-based institutions across the country, including Spelman and Morehouse Colleges and the Miami School of Law.

Today, Ms. Morris-Grant’s work reaches far beyond her own story. She is committed to inspiring hope, promoting holistic healing, and helping individuals and organizations create meaningful change while honoring the dignity and voices of survivors.

This morning, Violence Free Minnesota marked the first day of Domestic Violence Awareness Month by releasing the 2025 Homicide Report: Relationship Abuse in Minnesota, honoring the Minnesotans who were taken from us in 2025 as a result of domestic violence.

In honor of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, recognized every October, Artika Roller and other staff at Cornerstone are delighted to award State Representative Kelly Moller with the Cornerstone Community Partner Award!

Rep. Moller's tireless advocacy on behalf of survivors of domestic and sexual violence has spanned her public life and career. During her time in the state legislature, Rep. Moller was a champion for victim/survivors of domestic and sexual violence; she served as Chair of Judiciary Committee, Co-Chair of the Ethics Committee and the Public Safety Finance and Policy Committees, and served on Ways and Means, along with Judiciary Finance and Civil Law.

As her time in the legislature ends, we want to especially thank her for role in creating the Task Force on Improving Responses to Domestic Violence Crimes, which is working on a statewide policy that includes requirements for training and response, prevention and data collection in an effort to more effectively serve those impacted by domestic violence.
