I didn’t realize the difference it makes saying “committed su***de” vs “died by su***de” until I became a part of this world. Interesting read . . .

Did you know this?
When referring to someone who has killed themselves, it’s better to say they have “died by su***de” instead of saying they “committed su***de”. This small change in language has a huge impact in saving lives!
Research has shown that the term “committed” has a negative connotation associated with it, making people who have suicidal thoughts feel guilty for how they are feeling. If they feel like they will be greeting with shame instead of comfort and understanding when reaching out for help, they may never take the necessary steps in getting help.
If you’ve used the phrase “committed su***de”, it’s okay! Safe language is something we have to learn about. Moving forward, if you are talking about someone who has lost their life to su***de, try talking about it without the harsh word of “committed”. You never know who around you will notice and appreciate your care in safe language! 💕

📣 In collaboration with Northern Kentucky University, Growth Point Wellness and Boone County Schools, Ethan's Purpose is proud to announce a new mental health initiative designed to help incoming high school freshmen prepare mentally and emotionally for the transition to high school.

🎉 We are excited to offer this free summer program to students entering Conner High School for the 2026–27 school year. Through connection, support, and mental wellness education, students will gain tools to build confidence, manage stress, and start high school feeling supported and prepared.

💚 We were blessed this year to have so many committed Hope Squad Advisors in our Boone County schools. As the school year comes to an end, we want to thank each of them for the incredible work they’ve done implementing the Hope Squad peer-to-peer su***de prevention program in all of our middle and high schools.

🩷 Your compassion, dedication, and support have made a meaningful difference in the lives of students throughout our community. After doing such an AMAZING job taking care of others, it’s now time to take care of yourselves, too.
