This week, the world lost a remarkable artist, but we also lost one of its great examples of generosity.

Dolly Parton spent her life giving back in ways both enormous and deeply personal, from disaster relief and medical research to scholarships and more than 330 million books placed into the hands of children through her Imagination Library.

One of her simplest philosophies may be the one worth remembering most:

“I just see a need and if I can fill it, then I will.”

At SML GIVES INC those words resonate deeply. Because changing a community begins exactly there: seeing a need, caring enough to notice, and choosing to do something about it.

A life of music. A legacy of giving.

We are working hard to get our facility ready to serve!

Renovations are underway and we are hoping to have the pantry open and serving neighbors by the end of the year.

Did you know that over 15% of our neighbors are facing food insecurity? Almost one in every six of our neighbors in Franklin County don’t know how they are going to feed their families.

Together, with the existing network of local organizations, SML GIVES INC is working hard to bridge the gap and ensure that no one goes without and no one goes to bed hungry.

Our mission is to compliment, NOT COMPETE, wit the existing hunger relief network in our region.

In the first year of operations, SML Gives Inc has sourced and redistributed 30 pallets of peanut butter and pantry staples to organizations in Franklin, Bedford, & Pittsylvania Counties at no cost. We offer financial aid for households in crisis, working to establish stability and help those families thrive. Over 30 new refrigerators, washers, dryers, and stoves have been distributed to those without.

We are here to serve!

📣 WE’RE HIRING! 📣

SML GIVES INC is seeking an organized, dependable, and community minded professional to join our growing nonprofit team as our Administrative Assistant.

This is an opportunity to use your administrative, creative, and communication skills to support meaningful work throughout Franklin, Bedford, and Pittsylvania Counties. The person in this position will help keep our daily operations running smoothly while supporting communications, fundraising, board activities, volunteers, community events, and hunger relief programs.

Position details:

📍 Glade Hill, Virginia

⏰ Approximately 21 to 30 hours per week

💵 $14.00 to $18.00 per hour, based on experience and qualifications

📅 Occasional evenings, weekends, and special events

Responsibilities include:
• Providing administrative and executive support
• Creating flyers, graphics, newsletters, presentations, and social media content
• Supporting board and committee meetings
• Assisting with fundraising campaigns, donor relations, grants, and sponsorships
• Helping coordinate community events, food distributions, and volunteer activities
• Maintaining records, contact lists, databases, and organizational documents
• Supporting Salesforce and other technology systems

We are looking for someone who is organized, detail oriented, professional, comfortable managing multiple priorities, and genuinely committed to serving our community.

Experience with nonprofit operations, executive support, marketing, fundraising, event coordination, Salesforce, Canva, Adobe Creative Cloud, or the Smith Mountain Lake region is preferred but not required.

At SML GIVES INC, this is more than an office position. It is an opportunity to help strengthen our hunger relief network, connect neighbors with resources, and turn compassion into meaningful action.

The Mission Machine is rolling back to The COVES!

SML GIVES INC will be onsite the next two evenings during the Molly Tuttle concerts selling raffle tickets for our fully restored Harley-Davidson Sportster Nightster, and every ticket helps fuel our mission to fight hunger and hardship across the Smith Mountain Lake region.

This isn’t just a motorcycle.

It’s meals delivered to homebound neighbors.
It’s emergency support for families in crisis.
It’s a new community facility taking shape in Glade Hill.
It’s hope with chrome, grit, and a full tank.
