The Paralympics are underway, and athletes around the world are redefining what’s possible. We’re especially proud to cheer on DMV para ice hockey athletes Noah Grove and Evan Nichols as they represent our region on the world stage. Their journeys and those of so many others continue to inspire the next generation of athletes.

The medals have been awarded. The crowds have gone home. The Olympic flame has been passed on.
But something powerful is still happening.
All over the world, kids are replaying the moments they watched. Discovering new sports. Choosing their heroes. Imagining what might be possible.
They saw the victories. But they also saw the falls. The heartbreak. The athletes who got back up and kept going.
And that might be the most important lesson of all.
Because sports don’t just create champions. They teach resilience, courage, and belief.
There are no losers. Only winners and learners.
And somewhere out there, the next generation just got inspired to try.

We’re excited to share that Flag Star Football Foundation is a 2026 Alzner Foundation Grantee!

Flag Star is redefining what youth sports can look like, creating positive, inclusive playing environments where mentorship matters just as much as the scoreboard.

Now in its 10th year, Flag Star has rapidly expanded its free, school-based programs across Washington, DC, meeting students where they are through in-school PE sessions, after-school programming, and summer camp opportunities.

Sports can be one of the most powerful influences in a child’s life and Flag Star is making sure that influence is a positive one.

We are proud to support their continued growth and expanded access in 2026.

We are proud to announce Grassroots Health as a 2026 Alzner Foundation Grantee!

Grassroots Health is transforming the way middle school students in Washington, DC experience health and movement. By partnering directly with Title I schools, they deliver sports-based health education during the school day, blending physical activity with lessons in nutrition, mental health, and overall wellbeing.

At the heart of their model are trained NCAA student-athletes who serve as near-peer mentors, leading engaging, movement-driven sessions that help students see themselves as capable, confident athletes, both in the classroom and beyond.

By connecting sport, mentorship, and community, Grassroots Health is building healthier futures and expanding access to meaningful opportunities for youth across DC.

We are honored to support their continued growth and impact in 2026.

We are proud to announce DC Grays Baseball & Softball as a 2026 Alzner Foundation Grantee!

Founded in 2012, DC Grays is an all-volunteer nonprofit providing free baseball and softball programming to youth across Washington, DC primarily in Wards 6, 7, and 8.

From beginner programs to competitive travel teams, they ensure kids have access to uniforms, equipment, coaching, and meaningful opportunities, all at no cost to families.

The DC Grays are building more than athletes, they’re building confidence, discipline, teamwork, and opportunity in some of DC’s most under-resourced communities.

We are honored to support their mission of expanding access and increasing participation through the power of sport.

Meet Mariely!

Mariely is a member of Open Goal Project, a 2025 Alzner Foundation grantee. She first joined OGP at 11 years old. Today, as a high school senior, she’s a team captain, coach, and mentor, giving back to the very program that helped shape her journey.

Through Open Goal Project’s Empowerment Cycle, Mariely has built leadership skills, confidence, and real-world experience. She now coaches younger players, including her two younger sisters, showing them what’s possible when young athletes are given access, opportunity, and support.

One athlete can create a powerful ripple effect.
