🚩🪵🎶GORTON HONOR PATROL🎶🪵🚩
How do you build a strong unit? By following the patrol method. And a great way to strengthen your patrol at camp is by participating in the Gorton HONOR Patrol program!

Make your patrol flag, and then complete activities that demonstrate scout skills, spirit and service to others. Plus your patrol will get to participate in some pretty sweet campwide and program activities. Did someone mention patrol paddle boarding at waterfront? That's just one of many activities your patrol can do together. Put this on your list of things you want to do this summer at camp!

⚜️STAFF MEMBER SPOTLIGHT ⚜️ Cameron Kernan

We are overjoyed to have Cameron returning to Camp Gorton! This will be his 5th year on camp staff and is another member of the outstanding CIT class of 2022. This year he is not only reprising his role as Dining Hall Steward, but has escaped the archery range to work in FYRE this year mentoring first year scouts. Cameron is an Eagle Scout from Troop 16 Airport, NY and has been in scouting for 8 years.

Cameron loves to play bass guitar (ask him about his bass!) and hunt with his dad and brother. Also, if you ever hear someone singing "The Pizza Man" at the Hornell Wegmans, you can be certain it is Cam warming up his summer voice.

Welcome home, Cam!

🍦🪏📷GORTON SCOUTMASTER MERIT BADGE 📷🪏🍦
This one is just for the adults visiting Camp Gorton! As a scoutmaster or leader, there is a lot to do leading up to getting a troop to camp, but what do you do once you arrive, the campsite is set up and all of your Scouts are occupied? You can earn your own merit badge! Although there are some required elements that are service-oriented, the electives are where you get to show off your skills.

Grab your work gloves, get your camera ready, and practice your "When I was a kid" stories and add this to your plan for your week at camp. You will get immense bragging rights and a patch for earning this badge!

Huge shoutout to the real heroes of Wood Badge Course 10-380-26! 🪵🦅
A massive thank you to our incredible Cooking Crew for keeping us fueled and focused. Preparing food for a course is no small feat, but you managed to make every single meal absolutely phenomenal. (Seriously, camp food has no business being that good! 🍳✨)
And as if the top-tier cooking wasn’t enough, thank you for launching our spirits into orbit by presenting the Rocket Awards! 🚀 You brought the perfect mix of energy, humor, and motivation exactly when we needed it most.
Thank you for your late nights, early mornings, and unmatched servant leadership. You made this course truly unforgettable!

🌲 Wood Badge Day 2: Knowing the Territory! 🌲
Things are heating up at Camp Gorton for Day 2 of Great Falls Council’s Wood Badge course!
Today, our patrols shifted into high gear and dove straight into the “Knowing the Territory” games and competitions. These activities are much more than just fun and games, they are challenges in communication, problem-solving, and navigating the classic stages of team development.
These Scouters are discovering exactly what it means to rely on the Patrol Method. They are digging deep, learning their strengths, and proving that to lead the adventure, you truly have to know your territory!
The energy is electric, the leadership tools are locking into place, and the bonds being built this weekend will impact units across the Twin Tiers for years to come. 🦅🐺🐻🦊🦉🎨🪵

🌅 A crisp morning, a clear blue sky, and the colors flying high.

There’s nothing quite like the tradition and reverence of a morning flag ceremony to set the tone for the day. Wood Badge Course 10-380-26 is officially in full swing at beautiful Camp Gorton!

Watching the patrols come together reminds us of the core of Scouting leadership: unity, service, and bringing our best back to our units.

The “Rocket Project” isn’t just about aerodynamics, it’s about the “Storming and Norming” phase of leadership! 🛠️✨
On Day 2, our patrols put the planning process to the ultimate test. With the guidance of our Troop Guides, we turned a pile of supplies into a mission-ready vessel. Communication, collaboration, and a little bit of tape go a long way.
Did we hit the moon? Maybe not. Did we hit our stride as a team? Absolutely. 🦫 🦅 🦉🐻🦊🚀
