What a wonderful day in Austin! Yesterday’s Meta Glasses giveaway event for blind veterans was a tremendous success, and we’re so grateful to everyone who helped make it possible.

East Texas Lighthouse for the Blind was proud to join forces with the Texas Technology Access Program, Austin Lighthouse for the Blind, Meta and OIB to help bring innovative technology and greater independence to veterans who are blind or visually impaired.

A heartfelt thank-you to our partners for their collaboration, generosity, and shared commitment to empowering the people we serve.

And we’re not stopping here! East Texas Lighthouse for the Blind will continue distributing Meta AI glasses beyond this event, helping more individuals experience the possibilities this technology offers.

We're still all smiles about this year's East Texas White Cane Day!

From the annual awareness walk to the laughter, entertainment, and friendships shared throughout the day, it was a wonderful reminder of what makes this community so special.

GREAT news guys - We have some open capacity at our upcoming event and want to extend our invite. If you are a veteran who has already received your free Meta AI Glasses, but would like training or more training, let us know! Maybe you received them in the mail or maybe you just need a refresher - either way, call us. We'll get you on our schedule for the 27th in Austin!

Here we go again! Another exciting opportunity to empower veterans through technology is coming to Texas!

After kicking things off in Tyler and expanding the opportunity to Clarksville soon on October 17, we are thrilled to help bring this incredible initiative to Austin on Tuesday, October 27!

We're joining forces with the Blinded Veterans Association, Austin Lighthouse for the Blind, the Texas Technology Access Program, and other partners to provide eligible veterans who are blind or have low vision with FREE Meta AI glasses and personalized, hands-on training.

These innovative glasses can help users access information about their surroundings, read printed text, identify objects, and perform everyday tasks with greater independence.

The event will take place on Tuesday, October 27, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at The University of Texas at Austin’s Dell Campus for Advanced Research, formerly known as the J.J. Pickle Research Campus, located at 2901 Read Granberry Trail in Austin, Texas.

And here's something important: This opportunity isn't limited to veterans living in Austin! Eligible veterans from across Texas are encouraged to apply.

Advance registration and eligibility approval are required. This is not a walk-in event, and glasses are limited. Scan the QR Code to learn more and apply!

One of the most meaningful moments of East Texas White Cane Day is when we come together for our annual awareness walk! It's more than a walk around the park. It's an opportunity for people who are blind or have low vision, along with their families, friends, and supporters, to come together and make a visible statement about the importance of accessibility, independence, and inclusion.

Why does this walk matter? Because awareness leads to understanding. And understanding helps create communities where everyone can navigate safely, confidently, and independently. Every person who joins us helps amplify that message and show support for our blind and low-vision neighbors.

This Friday, we hope you'll be walking with us!

White Cane Day Has Been Celebrated for More Then 60 Years!

While we host our own East Texas White Cane Day celebration each year, White Cane Day is actually a nationally recognized observance dating back to 1964?
On October 6, 1964, President Lyndon B. Johnson officially proclaimed October 15 as White Cane Safety Day, recognizing the white cane as both an important mobility tool and a symbol of independence for people who are blind or have low vision.

What began as an effort to promote safety and awareness has grown into a celebration of independence, accessibility, inclusion, and the incredible achievements of individuals with vision loss!

And this Friday, we're continuing that tradition right here in East Texas!
Join us for East Texas White Cane Day on Friday, October 23, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Bergfeld Park in Tyler!
