According to a 2025 Cybersecurity trends report, 51% of businesses surveyed experienced a security incident in the past 12 months and 75% reported financial damage due to attacks.

The good news? You can take measures to protect your business. As technology and AI advances and become more interconnected, cyberattacks are becoming more difficult to defend against.

To make sure you're protected, here's 5 cybersecurity tips every business needs to follow:
1. Train all employees in cybersecurity practices.
2. Implement role-based access control (RBAC) to assign specific permissions to different employees based on their role in the company.
3. Initiate automated remote backup and data recovery.
4. Use multi-factor authentication (MFA).
5. Secure your Wi-Fi networks

No matter how large or small your business is, cybersecurity needs to be a priority. The BBB East Texas branch is here to help. Find us online at https://www.bbb.org/local-bbb/bbb-serving-central-east-texas.

Security experts recommend creating a unique, strong password for every online account you create. But that’s easier said than done!

Many people admit to using the same password across all their accounts, while others keep passwords written down at their desks. Neither option is secure when it comes to keeping your accounts safe.

This is where a password manager can be useful. Password managers keep powerful passwords for all your accounts stored in a “vault” that you can access with a single master password.

Check out this BBB Tip (https://www.bbb.org/all/consumer/tip/how-to-choose-a-password-manager) to learn more about choosing the best password manager for your business.

If your business got hacked tomorrow, would you know what to do?

If you don't have practical, preventative measures to help your small business protect its data and systems, you're essentially hoping nothing goes wrong rather than being prepared for when things do go wrong.

But we're prepared. That's why we created a Digital Defense Plan to help you stay proactive with these four steps:

1) Scan: Figure out what important devices and information your business uses and what could be at risk for a cyber incident.
2) Safeguard: Put simple protections in place to keep your data and devices safe.
3) Spot: Keep an eye out for anything unusual and make sure your team knows how to spot and report problems.
4) Stabilize: Have a plan and be ready to act fast if something goes wrong.

Check out our Digital Defense Plan (https://www.bbb.org/all/business/business-tips/digital-defense-plan) to learn more and reach out to our accreditation specialists to talk about how to integrate these steps into your workflow.

You can see the five-year version of your business clearly. The problem isn't the vision, it's the path between today and then.

Most business owners know where they want to land but wake up every day without a real map to get there. They're doing yesterday's work and hoping something shifts by next year. It rarely does.

On September 9, we're hosting "From Vision to Victory," a workshop where you bring the goal you already have and work backward to a step-by-step plan. You'll walk out with specifics on the team composition you'll need, whether your current systems can actually scale, which growth engines fit your business model, and what your financials need to look like at each stage.

This isn't abstract goal-setting. Michael Lavender and Alden Warr from Lavender | Warr bring real strategy for real growth.

Wednesday, September 9, 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at BBB East Texas in Tyler. $5 for Accredited Businesses, $40 for Non-Accredited.

If you're ready to turn your vision into an executable plan, join us. Spots are filling up.
