The city of Tyler Planning and Zoning Commission on Tuesday denied a proposed zoning change that sought to allow the use of metal recycling operations in a currently primarily residential neighborhood.

NORTH TYLER PERFORMING ARTS WORKSHOP ANNOUNCED

Empowerment Community Development Corporation is excited to announce the launch of the North Tyler Performing Arts Workshop, a new initiative designed to help restore performing arts opportunities for children and youth in North Tyler and throughout East Texas.

For a limited time, we are offering two weeks of introductory workshops** at a minimal cost of only $25 per class/workshop**. These sessions are designed to spark interest, develop creativity, and help us assess the community's desire for ongoing performing arts programming.

Workshop opportunities include:

🎭 Acting & Musical Theatre
🎵 Singing & Creative Movement
💃 Dance, Ballet, Jazz & Modern Dance
✨ Mime, Improvisation & Majorette/Stand

🎉 CONGRATULATIONS TO MRS. PAMELA ERWIN! 🎉

The Empowerment Community Development Corporation is proud to announce Mrs. Pamela Erwin as the 2026 North Tyler Historical Cultural Arts District Mrs. Juneteenth.

Mrs. Erwin was officially announced during the annual Texas African American Museum (TAAM) Black History Banquet, where community leaders, artists, educators, and supporters gathered to celebrate Black history, arts, culture, and excellence.

A lifelong advocate for the arts, Mrs. Erwin has dedicated her career to inspiring generations through dance, theatre, education, and cultural enrichment. As founder of The Dance Factory, co-founder of the Tyler Ballet Theatre, and a respected educator with Tyler ISD for more than three decades, her impact on East Texas is immeasurable.

Mrs. Erwin's selection recognizes her outstanding contributions to preserving and promoting the arts and culture of North Tyler and the broader East Texas community.
