Next Step Community Solutions Next Step Community Solutions is a nonprofit with a mission to create healthy, vibrant communities through training, education, mentoring, and counseling.

Founded in 1984, Better Business Bureau Accredited Charity Next Step has been located in Tyler, Texas since our founding in 1984. We were originally established as Sister Communities Council on Alcohol and Drug Abuse (SCCADA) to address the issues of youth alcohol and substance abuse. We have 3 programs that help create healthy communities through training, education, mentoring, and counseling:

Our Community Coalition Partnership Program works to bring concerned community forces together to prevent alcohol and drug abuse with East Texas youth. This program is funded primarily by the Department of State Health Services (DSHS). Our coalitions seek to alter community perceptions and public policy. We have three coalitions that support 9 counties. Our Comprehensive Counseling Program works alongside schools and juvenile probation offices to offer counseling services for less than the cost of a full-time district employee. Our Community Assistance Service helps citizens find the services they need to help them, or loved ones, overcome alcohol and/or substance abuse problems. Our staff helps them take that first step of calling the appropriate agency to schedule an assessment or counseling session.

And we're off!!

Our beginning-of-year retreat & counselor training is complete and our team is ready to start supporting students this school year on over 70 different school campuses here in Texas!

We love each opportunity for the Next Steppers to be all together, sharing about our experiences, and even getting to play the games we bring to students!

Sources of Strength is a strengths-based, upstream youth su***de prevention program that aims to break codes of secrecy among students, promote help-seeking behavior, foster healthy peer-to-adult relationships, and build resiliency among youth and we are proud to bring it to school campuses here in Texas.

Buckle up, because we’re celebrating many of the people who make Next Step Community Solutions wonderful!

Today marks the anniversary of seven incredible team members who all play an important role in strengthening our mission and supporting local youth here in Texas!

⭐️ Lori Dunaway, LPC-S, LMFT-S – Regional Lead Counselor | 9 Years
9 years of making a difference not only in the lives of many students she has worked with but also the counselors she leads and supports each school year. We are so thankful for you!

⭐️ Bonnie Blakey, LPC – Counselor | 5 Years
Bonnie continues to make an impact with the compassion she brings each and every day, now for 5 school years. Thank you for the hope you bring to the students you serve!

⭐️ Jade Allen-Rosser – Communications & Marketing Manager | 3 Years
Whether it's through social media, community outreach, or leading our Photovoice program, Jade works to support students by shining a spotlight on the way Next Step supports youth mental health each year!

⭐️ Stephanie Lummus, LPC – Counselor | 3 Years
Stephanie's commitment to the well being of students is something to be greatly proud of. We are thankful for the way you make those you serve feel safe, supported, and ready to grow!

⭐️ Victoria Bennie, LPC-S – Regional Lead Counselor | 3 Years
A source of leadership and and compassion, Victoria now has 3 years under her belt of supporting both her team of counselors and local students. Thank you for bringing your full self to your work!
