Our second Saturday workdays have been going on consistently for over 4 years. 📆
It’s a great place to get connected, support the farm, and learn about the current farm projects. 🚜
Every volunteer gets a food voucher for 𝐍𝐔𝐄𝐒𝐓𝐑𝐎 𝐓𝐈𝐀𝐍𝐆𝐔𝐈𝐒 𝐓𝐔𝐂𝐒𝐎𝐍 which is held every Saturday and Sunday. 🌮🌯
Yesterday we had over 20 volunteers that came ready to work!! 🪏
It was also great to have 4 of our interns back!

Es un espacio para poder conectar con la comunidad, apoyar a la granja y conocer los proyectos en los que andamos trabajando. 🚜
Cada voluntario recibe un ticket de comida para 𝐍𝐔𝐄𝐒𝐓𝐑𝐎 𝐓𝐈𝐀𝐍𝐆𝐔𝐈𝐒 𝐓𝐔𝐂𝐒𝐎𝐍, que se pone todos los sábados y domingos. 🌮🌯

Join Tucson Clean and Beautiful and Flowers and Bullets for a family-friendly desert tree & shrub planting party! 🌳🌱🌍

Where: 3538 E Ellington Pl.
When: 8AM-10AM
Make sure to show up on time to learn how to properly plant a tree.
Parking will be available on the street or parking lot.

Please wear close-toed shoes, a hat, sunscreen, and bring along a refillable water bottle (to reduce plastic waste). We will supply all necessary tools, gloves, and filtered drinking water and snacks!

✨All participants can receive a tree after completing the workshop.-✨

Help increase our city’s tree canopy and build strong communities by volunteering to plant trees! Tree planting is enjoyable for all ages, and volunteers always leave with a sense of accomplishment, knowing they’ve made an impact that lasts for generations!

A: 8AM

Q: Do I have to stay the whole time? 🌞
A: No, stay an hour, 2 hours or just come chill with the family.

Q: What do I need to bring? 💧
A: sunscreen, a refillable water bottle and a friend, or two

A: Kids are always welcome.

Happy belated Fall Equinox! 🍂☀️🧡

The fall equinox is the time of year at which the sun’s position appears to cross the celestial equator which creates nearly an equal amount of day and night time. ☀️🌌

This is a time for reflection and gratitude of this year’s harvest and setting intentions to let go of what no longer serves you. As indigenous people, we live in a reciprocal relationship with each other and with the earth. It is the opposite of exploitation and extraction that capitalism thrives upon. This is why decolonization is so important. We steward this land and community space at the Midtown Farm so that collectively we can connect back to the natural world and its teachings. 🌻🌱🦎

In partnership with the Reinhaus Family Foundation and working closely with our planners and architects at Poster Mitro McDonald (PMM), we are finally making it a reality.

Meet Nichole P Nicole Parks, another member of our Urban Forestry crew! 🌻

✨What is your favorite native tree and why?

Hard to pick from all of our amazing native trees, but I love rooting for an underdog. Catclaw acacia (Senegalia greggii) is not a lot of people’s favorite, due to their many catclaw-like thorns, allergens and being a voracious grower. But that growth creates a lot of potential to build a compatible structure for trees within our urban landscape.They can grow significantly slimmer than our Mesquites or Blue Palo Verdes making it a great fit for tight spaces or limited root zones, think a tree bush. Usually you don’t see them larger than 20ft tall and they grow quite upright unlike their other native tree companions. They are drought tolerant, and can survive with just the rainfall however they will get bigger with a bit of supplemental water, especially when they are younger. 🌱

✨What are some fun facts you can tell us about this tree? 😻
Their blooms attract so many of our native butterflies and pollinators and are an incredible food source i.e. their nectar and leaves. For us, they are also a food source as well, when the pods are green you can eat them fresh or roast and grind them to turn into flour.

✨Is there anything else we should know?
As we make better decisions in regards to building an urban landscape, we also need to think of the needs of others; not just people. Sometimes learning to work with and live amongst a plant, despite their thorns, is a more crucial need in order to create environments that support more than just us. 🌆🌳🦋
