Sister José Women's Center recently celebrated an expansion of its shelter at Park Avenue and 22nd Street.

Mayor Regina Romero, Ward 5 Council Member Selina Barajas, and other dignitaries were on hand for the recent ribbon cutting. Last fiscal year, Sister José served more than 1,600 women between the ages of 20 to 82 and provided more than 17,000 overnight stays and 32,000 breakfasts. The $1.3 million expansion created an additional 12 beds and a new lobby.

The City of Tucson provided $250,000 toward the shelter expansion, and the Arizona Department of Housing also contributed $250,000. Read about it in the TucsonSentinel https://bit.ly/4rPlO1u

GDNA received this from our RTA contact: A quick alert to inform you about the upcoming paving schedule on the south side of Grant Road between Rita and Alvernon.

The contractor will be putting the base course of paving on the south side of Grant Road from Rita to Alvernon this Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, 6/26 thru 6/28. Please note that there will be intermittent periods of no business access during that period, while the asphalt gets laid down, rolled/compacted, and allowed to cool.
