πŸ’¬β€οΈ Learn about ways to help foster children who age out of the system.

Many young people who age out of foster care face major challenges as they transition into adulthood. Often, these young adults are without the family support system many others rely on. Here are meaningful ways you can help:

~ Become an after-school or college tutor to support academic success.
~ Donate school supplies, clothing, furniture, or household goods to foster care agencies.
~ Help youth open a bank account and learn basic financial skills.
~ Support college and scholarship opportunities or create education funds

❀️ This week's Children's Heart Gallery feature is Aiden!

Aiden is a bright, creative, and pleasant youth who is bursting with curiosity and big dreams. With a thoughtful spirit and an inquisitive mind, Aiden often shares his exciting career goals β€” he dreams of becoming a chef or even a paleontologist.

Aiden has a huge passion for video games and could easily be your go-to Nintendo expert! He knows all the ins and outs of his favorite games like Donkey Kong: Banana Mania, Super Mario, and Odyssey. He also enjoys listening to JT Music on YouTube, especially their game-themed songs.

When he’s not gaming, Aiden enjoys little adventures and settling in to watch his favorite movie, Mr. Peabody & Sherman. His favorite meal is Chipotle, paired with an ice-cold A&W Root Beer on the side.

Aiden excels in Spanish and enjoys spending time independently. He thrives in calm, structured settings and likes reading in his free time as well as expressing his creativity through drawing and art.

Aiden also talks about wanting to learn important life skills like buying a house, understanding taxes, and getting his driver’s license. He is eager to prepare for his future and becoming more independent.

Aiden would blossom in a nurturing, routine-based one or two-parent adoptive home in Arizona where he can be the only child. A big, friendly dog would be the icing on the cake! He hopes for a family who celebrates creativity, encourages curiosity, and supports him as he continues growing into the amazing young man he is. Aiden was born in 2011.

πŸ‘¨β€πŸ‘©β€πŸ‘§β€πŸ‘¦πŸ“Š Foster Care Statistic: In 2021, 77 percent of eligible youth in foster care between the ages of 14 and 21 left care without receiving the federally funded services designed to help prepare them for adulthood and independent living.

These transition services can include support with education, employment, housing, financial literacy, healthcare, and life skills. Without access to these important resources, many young adults aging out of foster care may face increased challenges as they move toward independence.

πŸŽ„πŸŽβ˜€οΈ You’re invited to Second Saturday Shopping this June!

Foster children, kinship placements, and adoptive families are welcome at the Spreading Threads Clothing Bank on June 13 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. to β€œshop” for clothing and essentials, for free.

Our Second Saturday Shopping Event in June is our β€œChristmas in June” event! All foster, kinship, and adoptive children are eligible for toys and gifts they normally may have to wait until Christmas to receive. While the essentials are important daily, children also desire toys, books, and other gifts they may not get outside of the holidays. That is where the fun of β€œChristmas in June” jumps in to save the day.

Each child can also receive two new outfits and a pair of pajamas, with gently used clothing, books, and toys always available. First-time visitors may also receive new shoes, socks, and underwear.

Please remember to bring your DCS form FC069 β€œNotice to Provider” for each foster or kinship child. For questions, call (520) 971-3237.

Come celebrate the holiday season with us on the second Saturday of June!

πŸ‘¨β€πŸ‘©β€πŸ‘§β€πŸ‘¦πŸ“Š Foster Care Statistic: Roughly 48 percent of children in foster care are safely reunited with their biological families, while around 27 percent are eventually adopted.

Every child’s journey through foster care is unique. While reunification remains the primary goal when safe and possible, many children also find permanency through adoption. Supportive families and advocacy all play an important role in helping children achieve stability and lasting connections.

❀️ This week's Children's Heart Gallery feature is Paulina!

Paulina is a vibrant, determined, and independent teen with a creative side. She loves trying new hairstyles, surrounding herself with color, and listening to music, especially Latin and rap. She enjoys staying active by playing basketball, going on walks, and visiting Castles & Coasters. Paulina is also an adventurous eater who loves Golden Corral and snacks like blue Takis, Twix, and Dr. Pepper.
