Reposted feom Eagles of Innisfree
For those of you who follow our beloved Eagles of Innisfree you should know that the NYS DEC is considering a plan that would lower Lake Innisfree by 7-10 feet. This will greatly impact the environment surrounding our very successful nesting pair of Bald Eagles who have now successfully raised 6 healthy eagles right on the shore of Lake Innisfree. This unique environment is at risk. Please consider attending the public meeting or writing to the DEC directly (see info below).
There will be an online public comment hearing will be held this Thursday, August 27 from 6PM to 8PM. Anyone who do not want to see the lake lowered 7 feet should plan to attend, submit written comments, and speak if they chose to.
Those wishing to view this meeting need to register beforehand at this link:

Two phases of work are proposed. Phase 1 is proposed to remove a roughly triangular portion of the masonry spillway to lower the water level of the lake by approximately 7 feet. Phase 2 proposes widening the Phase 1 opening, by removing additional stone blocks within the spillway, to provide additional spillway capacity. The current application is for Phase 1 only.
Written Public Comments on this project may be submitted in writing to the Contact Person (below) no later than 09/4/2026.
