Today marks 251 years of courage, honor, and selfless service.
Happy Birthday to the United States Army! 🇺🇸
*June 14, 1775*
Freedom isn't free, and today we honor the millions of brave men and women who have answered the call of duty since the Revolutionary War.
To our active-duty soldiers, veterans, and the families who support them - THANK YOU!
By recognizing the Army Birthday today, we celebrate ALL Americans in uniform who currently serve and have served their country, in times of war and peace.
The US Army was the very first branch of service created. It was created on June 14th, 1775, more than a year before the Declaration of Independence was signed.
The US Army has had over 57 million service members in its history - including currently over 1.2 million Active Duty service members and over 800,000 Army Reservists. It is the oldest and largest branch of service.
As of December 2025, there were around 16 million LIVING US Veterans according to data from the Department of Veterans Affairs.
The US military currently has its smallest number of Active Duty servicemembers, with a TOTAL of 1.5 million serving. The number of those wanting to serve has been on a steady decline over the last 20 years. At its height (during WWII), our country had a TOTAL force of 16.5 million Active Duty servicemembers.
