If you haven't turned in your Voice of Democracy or Patriot Pen Scholarship applications yet, it's not too late. You can bring the completed applications to the VFW/American Legion tent at the Pumpkinfest on Saturday, between 10:00 and 2:00.

Thank you Josh Lenk!!

MDC Lieutenant Kevin Eulinger recently donated a deer hide to Josh Lenk with the Troy Elks #2805 in Lincoln County. The Elks National Veterans Service Commission coordinates the Veterans Leather Program, which processes donated hides from hunters and processors into free leather gloves for veterans in wheelchairs. The leather is also used in craft kits to help veterans develop new skills and provide enrichment while living in veterans' homes.

Last year, Missouri deer hunters donated more than 4,500 hides to the Elks Veterans Leather Program. Freshly skinned or frozen hides can be delivered to any participating Elks lodge. Learn more at

For many patients in VA hospitals, time can move slowly between visits from family and friends. In addition to holding events and providing friendship to veterans in VA hospitals, Elks also provide the tools for veterans to take up a new skill.
