Tonight, Trenton firefighters practiced using two important tools that help us identify hazards and keep our community safe.

🌡️ Thermal Imaging Cameras (TICs) allow firefighters to detect heat, locate hidden hot spots, and help find victims during rescue operations.

In the photos, pipes made from different materials all contained water at the same temperature, yet appeared differently through the camera! This demonstrates emissivity and reflectivity—how different materials emit and reflect heat. Understanding these principles helps firefighters interpret thermal images accurately.

⚠️ Gas Detection Meters help us identify invisible hazards, including dangerous levels of carbon monoxide (CO). Firefighters practiced meter operation, calibration, and the proper steps for investigating gas and CO alarm activations.

👨‍🚒 Knowing how to use our equipment—and understanding its limitations—is essential to keeping both firefighters and the public safe!

TRAFFIC ALERT!

THE OAK POINT ROAD IS CLOSED IN THE AREA OF THE 580 BLOCK DUE TO A SINGLE VEHICLE ACCIDENT INVOLVING A UTILITY POLE. THE ROAD WILL REMAIN CLOSED UNTIL VERSANT CREWS ARRIVAL ON SCENE AND ASSESS REPAIRS.

August & September 2026 – Month in Review

The Trenton Volunteer Fire Department responded to a total of 30 calls during August and September—22 in August and 8 in September—including the following:

October is Fire Prevention Month! With fall here and colder temperatures settling in, please make fire safety part of your seasonal routine. Have chimneys and heating systems inspected and cleaned, keep flammable items away from heat sources, and plug space heaters directly into wall outlets. Check your smoke and carbon monoxide alarms, and review your family’s escape plan. As daylight hours shorten, watch for pedestrians and wildlife and use extra care on the roads.

Tonight, Trenton Volunteer Fire Department members spent the evening refreshing and strengthening essential lifesaving skills.

Training covered CPR/AED, bleeding control, seizures, diabetic emergencies, splinting, drowning emergencies, choking and abdominal thrusts, and allergic reactions/EpiPen use.

A big thank you to Tom Miceli, Torie Cronk, and Tessa Byard from the Mariaville and Ellsworth Fire Departments for spending the evening with us and providing excellent hands-on instruction. We’re fortunate to have such knowledgeable and dedicated instructors willing to share their experience with our members.

These are skills we hope we never have to use—but when someone needs help, being prepared matters.

Remembering Deputy Luke Gross 💙🖤

Early this morning, members of the Trenton Volunteer Fire Department joined the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office and others along Route 3 in Trenton to pay our respects and remember Deputy Luke Gross on the fifth anniversary of his End of Watch.

On September 23, 2021, Deputy Gross was responding to a motor vehicle crash on Route 3 in Trenton. While outside his cruiser clearing debris from the roadway, he was struck by another vehicle and lost his life in the line of duty.

Five years later, we gathered near the place where Luke made the ultimate sacrifice to honor his life, his service to Hancock County, and the family, friends, and fellow first responders who continue to carry his memory.

TVFD is proud to stand alongside our law enforcement partners in remembering one of Hancock County’s own.

Tonight, TVFD members went to the Acadia Gateway Center and Winn’s Way water supplies to practice dry hydrant operations and ensure the dry hydrants are functioning properly.

Our two newest members got hands-on experience setting up and connecting to the dry hydrants, operating the pump panel, and setting up and flowing the deck gun.

With no municipal hydrant system in Trenton, water supply operations are an essential part of what we do. Training like this helps ensure our members are prepared and our equipment and water supplies are ready when needed.
