For more than three decades, Leavenworth Main Street has helped preserve the unique character of the first city established in Kansas. Through community awareness, involvement, education and historic preservation, the organization works to ensure downtown Leavenworth remains a vibrant, viable and attractive destination.

As an accredited Main Street program, Leavenworth Main Street utilizes the nationally recognized Main Street Approach to strengthen downtown through preservation-based economic development. The organization helps showcase a downtown rich in architectural heritage, locally owned businesses, and community events that draw residents and visitors throughout the year.

We are happy to introduce our Main Street of the Month – Independence Main Street. As a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization, they are dedicated to unlocking the full potential of their downtown area through economic development, preservation, and revitalization. By supporting local entrepreneurs, promoting community partnerships, and driving innovation, they are creating a ripple effect of positive change that benefits the entire region.

Their Main Street Gift Certificate Program already has injected over $1.3 million into local businesses since 1992, and they are just getting started! Together with their community they are building a downtown that's the heartbeat of a thriving, vibrant Independence!

Emporia Main Street is hosting Kansas Main Street executive directors and board members from across the state for two days this week. Main Street America is here, too!

It makes sense, as Downtown Emporia is where entrepreneurship, historic preservation, community events, and local culture come together to create one of Kansas’ most dynamic downtown districts. The historic Commercial Street corridor features an eclectic mix of locally owned shops, restaurants, entertainment venues, professional services, upper-story living and gathering spaces, all connected to the Emporia State University campus at the north end of downtown.

Founded in 1863 Ottawa’s rich history is reflected in its distinctive architectural styles, including Gothic, Renaissance, Victorian, and Art Deco.

The Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1972, serves as the nucleus of their city's identity, shaped by a legacy of freedom, commerce, agriculture, and trade. Downtown Ottawa is a prime destination, featuring a diverse range of locally owned businesses, salons, boutique shopping, unique restaurants, and museums.

Notable attractions include the Oldest Cinema in the World, the oldest surviving George P. Washburn courthouse in the state, and the intersection of the Prairie Spirit Trail and the Flint Hills Trail State Park trails, offering over 170 miles of outdoor recreational activities.
