Noteworthy developments are unfolding in south central Kansas. One year ago, Stafford County Economic Development launched the Stafford County Main Street program, uniting the communities of St. John and Stafford behind a shared vision for more robust and vibrant downtown areas.

Building on years of momentum in historic preservation and downtown revitalization, Stafford County Economic Development is currently undertaking a commercial rehabilitation project in downtown St. John, has completed the restoration of the historic Gray's Photo Studio, and is working to register downtown Stafford as a historic district.

Furthermore, the organization is finalizing downtown master plans for both St. John and Stafford, which will identify opportunities, establish priorities, and create a roadmap for future improvements and investment in both downtown districts.

The Stafford County Main Street initiative is in revitalization mode, preserving the history and character of these communities while injecting new energy, investment, businesses, and vitality into their small-town Main Streets. While there is still much work to be done, there is even more to be enthusiastic about.

The transformation of these historic downtowns is just beginning. We invite you to visit St. John and Stafford, stroll along their Main Streets, admire the historic buildings, meet the locals, and witness the transformation unfold.

Visit now, so you can say you saw the 'before' in the years to come.
