Remembering Wendell Berry, 1934–2026

Writers lost an extraordinary voice this week. Wendell Berry—poet, novelist, essayist, farmer and lifelong advocate for land and community—died August 31 at age 92.

Of his own writing, Berry once said much of it had been either “in defense of precious things” or “a giving of thanks for precious things.”

What a beautiful description of one reason we write.

What precious things are you trying to preserve, defend or give thanks for in your own writing?
