Happy Howl-o-ween 🎃! generously donated a harvest of pumpkins, and our wonderful friends at stuffed them full of delicious goodies for a special fall celebration! It was such a treat watching our sanctuary residents dive in and enjoy their spooky seasonal enrichment.

We are endlessly grateful to all the special people and community partners who give their time to support quality enrichment for the residents. Wishing everyone a Happy Howl-o-ween full of tricks and treats!

It's Behind the Scenes Wednesday! Wolfdog Layla has a real knack for digging dens in less-than-ideal locations. Whether it’s along the fence line or directly beneath a tree (which actually started to fall over!), her creativity keeps us on our toes.

For her own safety, the animal care team has had to collapse many of her underground projects. But, we’re happy to report that her newest den is both beautiful and completely safe!

It's Montana Monday! Enjoy this clip of McCleery wolf Tess trotting off to her safe spot with a massive elk leg bone, generously donated by local hunters.

Thanks to donations from nearby hunters and a local meat processing facility, our residents at McCleery Ranch regularly enjoy these healthy treats, perfect for enrichment. Bones provide essential calcium, scrape away tartar, and give their strong jaw muscles a fantastic workout. We are so grateful for our thoughtful community partners who make treats like this possible!

It's Trail Cam Sunday! While most of our residents ignore the trail cams we use to monitor their health and behavior, four-year-old wolfdog Mesa is quick to notice even the smallest change to his environment. In this clip, Mesa and his companion, female gray wolf Sierra, can be seen inspecting this camera right away!

As Wolf Awareness Week comes to a close, we are reflecting on what it takes to protect wolves today and for future generations.

This week is also National Estate Planning Awareness Week, a timely reminder of the impact we can make by planning ahead. By including Wolf Haven in your will, you can make an impact that ensures wild wolves and sanctuary residents are protected for decades to come.

Leave a lasting legacy for wolves today by visiting wolfhaven.org/plannedgiving/.

It’s Wolf Awareness Week 🐺! Did you know the Mexican wolf (Canis lupus bailyei) is a subspecies of the gray wolf, with its ancestors likely among the first gray wolves to enter North America? As of 2026, there are at least 319 wild Mexican wolves in the US and 380 in captive breeding programs!

If you would like to support our work rescuing Mexican wolves, contributing to endangered species’ recoveries, collaborating with partners to promote coexistence with wolves in Washington and beyond, and educating people of all ages, visit wolfhaven.org/conservation/safe.

It’s Wolf Awareness Week 🐺! Native exclusively to the Southeast, the American Red Wolf (Canis rufus) is America’s true wild wolf. Today, fewer than 300 exist in conservation facilities, with over 30 living in the wild in eastern North Carolina. Despite these odds, dedicated conservation groups, accredited zoos, and wildlife sanctuaries work relentlessly to preserve genetic diversity and rebuild wildlife populations. Join us this week in honoring their vital work to preserve America’s most endangered wolf!

For more information on the current status of American Red Wolves and their recovery program, please visit www.fws.gov/project/red-wolf-recovery-program.
