Hello! We can’t wait to see you all tomorrow night!! Just a few quick reminders to all, if you would like chairs PLEASE feel to bring your own. Your chairs will NOT be allowed in front of the standing room or “pit” area for safety reasons. Tenino to host the 57th Annual Oregon Trail Days Celebration July 26-28, 2024, in Tenino City Park, and Downtown Tenino
Tenino, WA- The 2024 Tenino Oregon Trail Days Festival will feature the Tenino Lions Club Grand Parade, Cascadia Country with the Pioneer Village with 30 hands-on activities for families including, the 30th Annual WAMS Rock & Gem Rendezvous, the Cascadiens, Dutch Oven Society and Mountain Man Rendezvous, The Tenino Depot Museum Oregon Trail Experience, Food Booths, Arts and Crafts Vendors, Live Entertainment, Oregon Trail Days Quilt Show, Tenino Young-At-Heart Theatre production of State Fair, Creekside Conservancy Salmon Bake, Tenino Timberland Library Book Sale, VFW and American Legion Opening and Closing Flag Ceremonies and presentation of Arms, South Thurston Fire and EMS Demonstrations and Dunk Tank, Gospel Sunday Community Worship Service in the Park, Tenino Music Festival, Thurston Community Media community members interviews, and Capital City 3 on 3 Basketball Tournament. Visitors are encouraged to check out the new playground equipment, three pump tracks, trails, and the Tenino Quarry Pool while at the festival. WAMS Rock & Gem Rendezvous 9:00 a.m.- 6:00 p.m.
Washington Agate and Mineral Society, the state’s oldest organized rock club, is hosting its 30th Annual Rock, Gem, Fossil, and Mineral Show in conjunction with Tenino's Oregon Trail Days celebration. The show is educational and fun for all ages. Who doesn’t like rocks? The show is a wonderful way to introduce your kids to science through geology. Admission to the show is free and is located at the Tenino City Park in Cascadia Country on the ball fields near the Blue Pump Track. The hours of the show are as follows; Friday the 26th 9:00am-6:00pm, Saturday the 27th 9:00am-6:00pm, and Sunday the 28th 9:00am-5:00pm. Nearly twenty vendors will be selling a wide variety of rocks and minerals, jewelry, beads, gems, crystals, fossils, and lapidary equipment for rock cutting, polishing, etc. The club will have its beloved spinning wheel and door prize tickets for sale. Several demonstrators will be showcasing how to make stone arrowheads, knives, beads, and cabochons. There will also be demonstrations of rock polishing and sterling silver wire-wrapping.

Join the Tenino VFW and American Legion at the Memorial Wall for an opening Flag Ceremony. National Anthem sung by Mayra Pena.

Introducing Cascadia Country, located on the Ball Fields near the Blue Pump Track in the Tenino City Park. It will be home to Pioneer Village, WAMS Rock & Gem Rendezvous, Dutch Oven Society, Cascadiens, and Primitives Mountain Man Rendezvous.

Pioneer Village 10:00 a.m.- 4:00 p.m.
Pioneer Village Hands-on Activities at the Depot Museum- The best edutainment festival for families to share the experiences of what life was like for pioneers more than 100+ years ago.
1. Axe Handle Making with a draw knife- Visitors will use a draw knife to shave a limb until it turns into an axe handle.
2. Antler Jewelry- Visitors will cut antlers into pieces, drill holes in them, put string through the drilled holes and wear them around neck as a necklace.
3. Arrowhead Carving- Visitors will learn about Arrowheads and the opportunity to carve one out of wax.
4. Blacksmithing- Visitors have the chance to watch as iron is heated in a forge and shaped by pounding it.
5. Candle Making- Visitors will dip strings into melted wax to make a candle. Supplies provided by Swan Candles.
6. Cascadien Group- Dressed in costume, the group sets up a historically accurate camp and performs various activities with visitors.
7. Cedar Post and Rail Making- Visitors are invited to drive wedges into a log and continue to drive other wedges down the log until eventually the log splits, and rails and posts are created.
8. Cedar Shake Making- Visitors will drive a Froe (or Frow) shake axe into a cedar block. Then pull back on the handle and a shake breaks off from the block.
9. Cedar Bark- Rope-making exhibit.
10. Corn Husk Dolls- Visitors have the opportunity to make small dolls with the husk of corn.
11. Dutch Oven Cooking Demonstration- Visitors will sample a variety of treats that have been cooked in a Dutch Oven and learn about the process of cooking with it.
12. Electric and Bicycle Sharpener displays- Visitors will sit and push pedals to turn the large round stone and witness axes and knives being sharpened.
13. Gardening- “How To” garden demonstration plus children will have the chance to plant seeds.
14. Lashing Sticks- Visitors will learn how to use twine to lash together sticks or poles to create features.
15. Log Cabin Notching- Visitors will learn how to place a log on a sawhorse, saw two cuts and then take a mallet and a wood chisel and carve out a notch.
16. Log cutting with a Crosscut Saw- Visitors will place a log onto sawhorses, then two people will take the crosscut saw and pull back and forth to cut the log.
17. Lumber Making with Carpenters Adze- Visitors learn how to lay a log on the ground, straddle it, and use an Adze to chip away, moving backwards to flatten one side. By continuing this process on all sides, the log eventually becomes lumber.
18. Old Fashioned Toys- Visitors are invited to play with several different old toys used in the 1800’s.
19. OHOP Pioneer Farm Activities- Visitors are invited to try out many different farm activities from the OHOP Valley near Eatonville.
20. Pitchwood Fire Starter- Visitors will learn the history of Pitchwood and how it comes from an old stump in the woods. They will shave off several pieces and demonstrate how it can start a fire.
21. Primitives- Mountain Man Rendezvous- See what life was like living in the wilderness in the 1,800’s
22. Rope Making- Visitors have the chance to use a 100-year-old device to twist three strings of twine to make it into rope.
23. Textile Activities- Connect paper squares with designs and make a paper quilt.
24. Trading Post- Display consists of a variety of old and unique items that visitors may provide a donation for in order to take the item home.
25. Washing Clothes with a Scrub Board and Wringer- Visitors have the chance to put clothes in a tub of soap and water, use the scrub board to clean them and then rinse the clothes in clean water, use the wringer to get rid of the water and then hang the clothes to dry.
26. Wood Carving/Whittling- Visitors have the chance to use a pocketknife to carve and whittle on a stick to create a walking stick.
27. Wood Chisel Carving- Learn to carve on Alder wood to make sculptures.
28. Woodworking Station- Visitors can try out several old carpentry tools including hand drills, hammers, nail pullers and planner.
29. Wood Carving- Use wood fine tools to create carvings out of pine boards.

The Tenino Depot Museum's Oregon Trail Experience 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
The experience will feature hands-on activities and historical displays that will transport you to when the Oregon Trail came through Tenino. Visit the museum, pick up a scavenger hunt, and adventure down the Old Oregon Trail. Friday through Sunday.

Food, Arts & Craft Vendors 10:00 a.m. -5:00 p.m. coordinated by the Tenino Community Service Center Food Bank Plus, stop by the information booth for a free piece of Cake to Celebrate their 40th Anniversary. Food vendors include Riley Novelty Sales Ice Cream, Shy'z Lunch, Squish & Shake Lemonade, Tony's Ynot Italian, Kreative Kettle Corn, Lone Tree Coffee Co., LLC, Bigfoot BBQ, and Trailer Smash. More than 40 Arts, Crafts, and Commercial Vendors will participate as well.

The Tenino Depot Museum's Oregon Trail Experience 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
The experience will feature hands-on activities and historical displays that will take you back to when the Oregon Trail came through Tenino. Visit the museum, pick up a scavenger hunt, and adventure down the Old Oregon Trail. Friday through Sunday.

Food, Arts & Craft Vendors 10:00 a.m. -5:00 p.m. coordinated by the Tenino Community Service Center Food Bank Plus, stop by the information booth for a free piece of Cake to Celebrate their 40th Anniversary. Food vendors include Riley Novelty Sales Ice Cream, Shy'z Lunch, Squish & Shake Lemonade, Tony's Ynot Italian, Kreative Kettle Corn, Lone Tree Coffee Co., LLC, Bigfoot BBQ, and Trailer Smash. More than 40 Arts, Crafts, and Commercial Vendors will participate as well.

Pioneer Village 11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
Pioneer Village Hands-on Activities at the Depot Museum- The best edutainment festival for families to share the experiences of what life was like for pioneers more than 100+ years ago.
1. Axe Handle Making with a draw knife- Visitors will use a draw knife to shave a limb until it turns into an axe handle.
2. Antler Jewelry- Visitors will cut antlers into pieces, drill holes in them, put string through the holes, and wear it around the neck as a necklace.
3. Arrowhead Carving-Visitors will learn about Arrowheads and the opportunity to carve one out of wax.
4. Bike Tool Sharpening-
5. Blacksmithing- Visitors have the chance to watch as iron is heated in a forge and shaped by pounding it.
6. Candle Making- Visitors can dip strings into melted wax to make a candle. Supplies provided by Swan Candles.
7. Cascadien Group- Dressed in costume, the group sets up a historically accurate camp and performs various activities with visitors.
8. Cedar Post and Rail Making- Visitors are be invited to drive wedges into a log and continue to drive other wedges down the log until eventually the log splits and rails and posts are created.
9. Cedar Shake Making- Visitors will drive a Froe (or Frow) shake axe into a cedar block. Then pull back on the handle and a shake breaks off from the block.
10. Cedar Bark- Rope making exhibit.
11. Corn Husk Dolls- Visitors can make small dolls with the corn husks.
12. Dutch Oven Cooking Demonstration- Visitors will sample a variety of treats that have been cooked in a Dutch Oven and learn about the process of cooking with it.
13. Electric and Bicycle Sharpener displays- Visitors will sit and push pedals to turn the large round stone and witness axes and knives being sharpened.
14. Gardening- “How To” garden demonstration plus and children can plant seeds.
15. Lashing Sticks- Visitors will learn how to use twine to lash together sticks or poles to create features.
16. Log Cabin Notching- Visitors will learn how to place a log on a sawhorse, saw two cuts and then take a mallet and a wood chisel and carve out a notch.
17. Log cutting with a Crosscut Saw- Visitors will place a log onto sawhorses, then two people will take the crosscut saw and pull back and forth to cut the log.
18. Lumber Making with Carpenters Adze- Visitors learn how to play a log on the ground, straddle it, and use an Adze to chip away at the log, moving backwards to flatten one side. By continuing this process on all sides, the log eventually becomes lumber.
19. Old Fashioned Toys- Visitors are invited to play with several different old toys used in the 1800’s.
20. OHOP Pioneer Farm Activities- Visitors are invited to try out many different farm activities from the OHOP Valley near Eatonville.
21. Pitchwood Fire Starter- Visitors will learn the history of Pitchwood and how it comes from an old stump in the woods. They will shave off several pieces and demonstrate how it can start a fire.
22. Primitives- Mountain Man Rendezvous
23. Rope Making- Visitors have the chance to use a 100-year-old device to twist three strings of twine to make it into rope.
24. Textile Activities- Connect paper squares with designs and make a paper quilt.
25. Trading Post- Display consisting of a variety of old and unique items that visitors may provide a donation for and take the item home.
26. Washing Clothes with a Scrub Board and Wringer- Visitors have the chance to put clothes in a tub of soap and water, use the scrub board to clean them and then rinse the clothes in clean water, use the wringer to get rid of the water and then hang the clothes to dry.
27. Wood Carving/Whittling- Visitors can use a pocketknife to carve and whittle on a stick to create a walking stick.
28. Wood Chisel Carving- Learn to carve on Alder wood to make sculptures.
29. Woodworking Station- Visitors can try out several old carpentry tools including hand drills, hammers, nail pullers, and planner.
30. Wood Carving- Use wood fine tools to create things out of pine boards.

Noon-2:00 p.m. Oly Mountain Boys
The Oly Mountain Boys are a South Puget Sound bluegrass institution who have been picking and singing around Olympia, WA since 2008. They bring a Pacific Northwest sensibility to the bluegrass sound through traditional tunes and original compositions that showcase the power of the American bluegrass music tradition.
