St. Joseph’s Helpers provides minor home repairs that help our neighbors stay safe and independent in their homes. One of the services we provide is replacing faucets.

We’re highlighting a past project completed by our wonderful field volunteer, Phil, as an example. Thanks to a generous gift card donation, we were able to purchase the materials needed to replace the faucet in the client’s laundry tub.

But the project came with an unexpected challenge! The laundry tub was covered by a hinged panel that transformed the sink into a folding table between the washer and dryer. The new faucet didn't quite fit right, so Phil obtained permission from the homeowner to modify the table so it would clear the new faucet.

Phil's problem-solving made all the difference and the client was very happy with the result! Thank you Phil and thank you to the donor whose gift card helped make this repair possible!

Please give a big shoutout to our Volunteers of the Quarter! We are incredibly grateful for these two outstanding members of the St. Joseph’s Helpers family!

Miss Mary Jo is a treasured office volunteer who always brings cheer and a positive spirit to the office. She was one of our very first volunteers, and has been consistently volunteering one day every week, from the Rockwood office to our Taylor location today. Her commitment to service is a beautiful example of how each of us can give what we’re able, whenever we’re able, and still make a difference in the lives of others.

Mr. Thomas is a thoughtful and dedicated field volunteer who has helped many of our clients with light plumbing, basic lighting issues, and other safety-related needs. He takes the time to carefully investigate each issue to determine whether it’s something he can fix within the scope of our services. If not, he does his best to explain the situation and help the client understand what might be going on. For clients who need someone they can trust, Thomas has made a meaningful difference through both his repairs and his honest guidance.

Mary Jo and Thomas represent the very best of volunteer service and we thank them both for all that they've given to St. Joseph’s Helpers and the neighbors we serve!

St Joseph's Helpers will be attending The Concert for a Cause, sponsored by Dedicated to Downriver at The Grecian Center in Southgate MI. Please join us tonight, Monday, Aug 31, from 5-9 pm for live music, a Silent Auction, Gift Basket Raffles, 50/50 raffles, and more!

Installing railings may seem like a simple job, but there is much work done behind the scenes to ensure that a railing can safely be installed.

Our team works through several important steps including a review of the request to determine what the home needs, assessment to see if the project is safe and feasible, and, if all seems safe, we then coordinate materials, funding, volunteers, and scheduling to bring the project together.

Thank you once again to our St Joseph's Helpers and AmeriCorps NCCC team for doing such a great job!

Another set of wood stairs built thanks to the hard work of AmeriCorps NCCC, under the mentorship of St Joseph's Helpers!

This labor intensive task was undertaken with care and precision so the homeowner could once again use her stairs without worrying about unstable or unsafe steps.

We are grateful for the dedication of these young volunteers and proud to mentor them as they put their service into action. Projects like this show just how much can be accomplished when we come together to help a neighbor in need.

St Joseph's Helpers had a fantastic time at the Woodward Dream Cruise! Classic cars were turning heads on Woodward Avenue, including these beauties sporting St Joseph’s Helpers bumper stickers!

The cars may have been the stars of the Dream Cruise, but our favorite part was seeing our community come together! We hope these fantastic folks will join us as volunteers, donors, and supporters so we can continue to provide safety-related home repairs for seniors, veterans, those with disabilities, and neighbors in need.

Another project completed by the St Joseph's Helpers and AmeriCorps NCCC team!

Although a cement step replacement is not something we are normally able to do, this project was made possible due to a donation and the extra hands provided by the Americorps NCCC students. We are very grateful for this assistance!

The St. Joseph’s Helpers and AmeriCorps NCCC team are doing some beautiful work!

These 7 wooden steps were built by the team under the mentorship of our Field Repair volunteer, Charlie. They did a fantastic job, and once the steps were complete, they installed a railing for added safety.

A special thank-you to Charlie for his guidance and to our AmeriCorps NCCC team for coming in ready to work and getting started right away!
