Join Downriver Linked Greenways for our next Park-to-Park Ride on Saturday, October 24!

We’ll ride from the Detroit River International Wildlife Refuge (DRIWR) to Lake Erie Metropark and back, exploring the connection between these two incredible natural areas along the Downriver trail system.

Enjoy a fall ride, take in the scenery, and experience the parks and trails that make our region special.

OKAY… THIS ONE IS A LITTLE OUTSIDE MY NORM, BUT LET’S GO.

Have you ever thought about kayaking in the FALL?

Because now I have… and I’m intrigued. 😂

We spend so much time talking about c***r mills, festivals, flea markets and all the usual fall things — but meanwhile, some of the prettiest views of Downriver might be waiting for us from the WATER.

So, weather and water conditions permitting, I went looking for places around Downriver where you can squeeze in a beautiful fall paddle.

And now I kinda want to go. 🍂🛶

🍂 ELIZABETH PARK — TRENTON

🛶 HUMBUG MARSH — TRENTON/GIBRALTAR

🍁 HUROC PARK & THE HURON RIVER — FLAT ROCK

🌾 LAKE ERIE METROPARK — BROWNSTOWN

🍃 LOWER HURON METROPARK / HURON RIVER

Imagine the leaves changing along the shoreline, the water a little quieter and that crisp fall air.

That sounds pretty darn good to me.

Just remember: fall paddling is different from paddling in July. The air can feel beautiful while the water is already VERY cold.

🦺 Life jacket ON.

🌡️ Dress for the water temperature.

🌬️ Check the wind, weather and water conditions before you launch.

👯 Paddle with a buddy when possible.

🌅 And leave yourself plenty of daylight to get back.

If the conditions aren’t right, save it for another day.

But if Michigan hands us one of those gorgeous, calm October afternoons?

GO WANDER. 🍁🛶

Because there’s always somewhere to wander…

sometimes you just have to paddle there. ❤️

River Ride with Friends is coming up October 10!

Join us at 2:00 PM for an afternoon ride along the Downriver trail network as we celebrate the trails, waterways, and communities that connect us.

We’re excited to announce that we’re making this event FREE to everyone! Our goal is to make River Ride with Friends more accessible to anyone who wants to get outside, ride, and enjoy the Downriver trail system.

We’ll also be joined by our partners at PEAC (Programs to Educate All Cyclists), who will share testimonials and stories from students in their program about how cycling and accessible transportation can create greater opportunities for people in our communities.

This past Saturday, more than 50 participants came together on Belle Isle for a public canoeing event at Lake Okonoka in celebration of National Public Lands Day.

Downriver Linked Greenways was excited to be part of the event through tabling and outreach, connecting with participants and sharing information about the incredible network of trails just south of Belle Isle and throughout the Downriver communities.

Events like this are a great reminder of how our parks, waterways, public lands, and trails connect our communities and provide opportunities for people to get outside and explore.

River Ride with Friends is coming up!

Join Downriver Linked Greenways for a 14-mile ride exploring Oakwood and Willow Metroparks, with a special highlight on Programs to Educate All Cyclists (PEAC).

The ride will include hands-on opportunities to ride alongside a group of PEAC students, giving participants a chance to experience their programs and learn more about their mission.

A shorter turnaround option will also be available to accommodate cyclists of different abilities and experience levels.

The cost is $40, with all proceeds supporting PEAC’s operations and their mission to empower individuals with disabilities through cycling, walking, bussing, bicycle mechanics, and self-advocacy education.

Last week, 12 riders joined Downriver Linked Greenways for our Park to Park Ride, traveling from Huroc Park to Lake Erie Metropark!

The ride was designed to help participants experience firsthand how the Downriver Linked Greenways trail network connects our communities, parks, and destinations throughout the Downriver region.

From Huroc Park to Lake Erie Metropark, riders got the chance to explore the connections that make it possible to travel throughout the Downriver area by bike and see how individual trail segments come together to create a larger regional network.

Thank you to everyone who came out and helped make the ride a great success! We hope you'll continue exploring the Downriver trail network and discovering where the trails can take you. 🚴‍♀️

🚲 Detroit Slow Roll is coming to Trenton!

Join us Saturday, September 19th for a community ride through Downriver! The ride will start in Downtown Trenton, head north to Wyandotte, and then return to Trenton.

Come out, bring your bike, and enjoy a fun ride with the community while exploring the West Jefferson Corridor and our neighboring Downriver communities.

Join us on Saturday, October 3rd at 10 AM for a Fall Trail Tour!

This FREE community bike ride will explore the W. Jefferson Ave. corridor between Trenton and Wyandotte, highlighting local businesses, community assets, and ongoing efforts to improve Downriver trails.

Along the way, we’ll also have local businesses participating and showcasing some of their products and offerings to the Downriver community.
