🏆What an incredible way to end ASD STEM Academy! Students received awards recognizing their hard work, character, and academic achievement, including custom 3D-printed trophies for the winners of our BattleBot Competition. They also received certificates for a $5,000 scholarship to either National Technical Institute for the Deaf or Gallaudet University.

We then celebrated with a trip to Shocco Springs Baptist Conference Center for ziplining and the Aqua Park. Lunch was provided by our amazing cafeteria staff using the AIDB Food Truck. What a perfect ending to an amazing three weeks! 🤖💙

🦉 Yesterday, ASD STEM Academy students explored The Birmingham Zoo and dissected owl pellets! Students searched for bones, teeth, and other remains to discover what owls eat while learning about food chains, ecosystems, and animal adaptations. It was a hands-on STEM experience that brought science to life! 🔍🦴

🤖🏆 BattleBot Competition Day was intense and fun! Students put their skills to the test as they competed with robots they designed and built throughout ASD STEM Academy. Competitors were randomly seeded into a double-elimination tournament, giving them the opportunity to showcase their strategy, problem-solving, and teamwork. The excitement was high as robots battled for a spot in the championship round! 🎈⚙️

🤖🎈 BattleBots competition is almost here! Students have been designing their robots, testing strategies, and practicing for competition. Each robot has a balloon attached and will use movement and bumping to try to pop their opponents' balloons while protecting their own. We can't wait to see them compete tomorrow!

🐍🦎🐢 McWane on the Move visited ASD STEM Academy! Students enjoyed meeting a ball python, bearded dragon, and box turtle while learning about these amazing animals through hands-on experiences.

Week 2 of ASD STEM Academy has been full of learning and fun! Students enjoyed delicious beignets from the Happi Pappi Food Truck. In ASL class, students used classifiers to describe a picture in ASL while their partners drew it based solely on the signed directions. Students also enjoyed some friendly competition on the pickleball court during recreational time. Great teamwork, communication, and creativity in action! 🤟
