FIRST Family was excited to participate in Cassi’s Medical Training Services’ Health and Resource Fair!
We brought our simulator dolls to help raise awareness about the dangers of shaking a baby, common childhood illnesses, the effects of drugs and alcohol, and the importance of safe, gentle infant care. Every conversation was an opportunity to share information that helps keep children safe and families healthy!

The 6th grade scholars at Houston Elementary School have been discussing Drug Prevention Awareness in observance of Red Ribbon Week. Their topics and activities this month have included discussions on the following: The History of Red Ribbon Week/ A Poster Contest/ 7 Facts about va**ng & E Ci******es/ How Drugs affect your body/ Fake and Fatal/ When one pill can kill/ Distribution of Bracelets, journals, stickers/ Law Enforcement presentation on drugs, alcohol and to***co.
The scholars were presented with SOCKS that had inspiring and uplifting messages printed on them. The Theme used was, “SOCK it to Drugs Day” led by Life Skills facilitator, Mrs. Stella Taylor. They are now educated and knowledgeable about the ill effects of using drugs. Check out the scholars wearing and enjoying their new SOCKS !

FIRST Family Service Center staff enjoyed a “BACK TO SCHOOL DAZE” with the children on August 6th at the Westgate Center. The children watched a DVD movie entitled GOAT ( described as- A story that follows Will, a small goat with big dreams who gets a once in a lifetime shot to join the pros and play roarball- a high intensity, co-ed, full contact sport dominated by the fastest, fiercest animals in the world. Wills’ new teammates aren’t thrilled about having a little goat on their roster but Will is determined to revolutionize the sport and prove once and for all that “smalls can ball.”) The children were refreshed at the end with making their own Ice cream Sundaes’ . They enjoyed mouth watering toppings of their choice- caramel and/ or chocolate syrup, rainbow and dark chocolate sprinkles and crumbled cookies. The ice cream hit the spot for a hot, humid day. We appreciate our volunteers Terin and Daphne from Farmers Home Furniture that assisted us with this event, as well as parents and a grandparent. Wishing all of the children a successful 2026-2027 school year.

Congratulations to Ms. Madison Hurst and Mr. Colby Spendlove for successfully completing Parenting Education! They belong to Amy Hurst who works at FIRST. They are the parents of Michael and Amy’s 8th grandbaby Miss Libbie Jo Spendlove making her arrival in December.
