In Talladega where antebellum homes abound, a surprising jewel of the City for art and history lovers is Jemison-Carnegie Heritage Hall. This elegant building, built in 1906 was originally the Talladega Public Library, a product of Andrew Carnegie's nationwide library construction program.

WOW! What a Night at Heritage Hall! 🏆🎉

We may have come close to breaking the fire code AGAIN last night — but what a wonderful problem to have! 😄

A huge THANK YOU to everyone who joined us for our Spotlight on Local Arts Reception and Awards Presentation! What an incredible turnout and a great evening celebrating the amazing artistic talent in our community.

Congratulations to all our award winners and to every artist who shared their work with us. You are what makes this exhibit so special! Here are a few photos from the evening.

We are so grateful for the continued enthusiasm and support of our community. Thanks for voting and coming out to celebrate!

We'd also like to thank our sponsors, the City of Talladega, Alabama State Council on the Arts, and the Jemison Carnegie Foundation. We wouldn’t be able to do it without you!

🏺 Artist Spotlight: Ross Bryant

Today we’re featuring Ross Bryant, a talented potter whose work is part of our Spotlight on Local Arts exhibit!

Raised in Cropwell, Alabama, Ross recently returned to the area after retiring from teaching art in Anderson, South Carolina. He now has a studio in Talladega, where he creates both wheel-thrown and hand-built pottery.

What makes Ross’s pottery especially interesting is the firing process. His pieces are fired for three days in a wood-fired Anagama kiln, reaching temperatures above 2,400 degrees. The interaction of fire, ash, clay, and glaze creates unique colors, textures, and finishes—making every piece one of a kind.

We’re excited to have Ross and his beautiful pottery represented in this year’s Spotlight on Local Arts. Stop by Heritage Hall to see his work in person—and remember to vote for your favorite piece for the People’s Choice Award! 🏺🎨

🎨 Artist Spotlight: Mary Fountain

Today we’re featuring Mary Fountain, a Talladega County artist whose beautiful watercolors are part of our Spotlight on Local Arts exhibit!

Mary has studied painting for many years, beginning with acrylics and oils before focusing on watercolor. Since moving to Talladega in 2003, she has studied with artists including Tommy Moorhead and Wayne Spradley and has participated in workshops with several nationally recognized watercolor artists.

Mary is a Signature Member and Treasurer of the Watercolor Society of Alabama, and her work has been accepted into numerous WSA state and national exhibitions. She has also shared her talents with our community by teaching watercolor and acrylic classes right here at Heritage Hall.

We’re so pleased to have Mary and her beautiful work represented in this year’s Spotlight exhibit. Come see her paintings in person—and don’t forget to vote for your favorite for the People’s Choice Award! 🎨
