A lot can happen in just two hours!🌙

At our August Evening of Impact, our volunteers built more than 200 transportation boxes to help prepare for upcoming distributions. We were grateful to have several of our regular Evening of Impact volunteers back with us, along with a group from Calvary Baptist Church Childersburg!

Evening of Impact is a great way to serve with ACFS if volunteering during the day doesn’t work with your schedule. Join us at one of our upcoming evenings:

📅 September 14 | 5:00–7:00 PM
📅 October 12 | 5:00–7:00 PM

Come spend an evening with us and make an impact for children and families in our community! 💪

September is Hunger Action Month! 🙌

Hunger Action Month is a nationwide effort to raise awareness about food insecurity and encourage communities to take action against hunger.

At ACFS, that mission connects closely to what we do every day as we provide dependable food support to children and families facing food insecurity while bringing our community together to serve with compassion and share the hope of the gospel.

Throughout September, we’ll be sharing ways you can get involved through volunteering, giving, partnering and praying.

A little history behind the orange 🧡 Orange is the official color of hunger relief and has become a symbol of support for the fight against hunger. Its roots also trace back to the original Food Stamp Program, where the first coupons had an orange hue.

The month will lead up to Hunger Action Day on September 29, a day when communities across the country come together and put that awareness into action.

Follow along throughout September as we share ways you can get involved and take action with ACFS!

This morning, ACFS Executive Director Gene Rogers and Community Relations Coordinator Val Harvey had the opportunity to join Talk of Alabama and share more about the impact of ACFS in our community!

They talked about what food insecurity can look like for children and families, the very real challenges many of our neighbors face, and the many ways our community can get involved and help make a difference.

We are so grateful to our community partner, Coosa Pines Federal Credit Union, for sponsoring this segment and helping make this opportunity possible.

Thank you also to Talk of Alabama for welcoming us and giving ACFS the opportunity to share our story and mission with viewers across Alabama!

Watch the full segment to learn more about ACFS and how you can be part of the impact. 🙌

School is back in session, and ACFS Weekend Food Bags are back too! 📦🙌

Pinecrest Elementary School in Sylacauga was one of the first schools to receive Weekend Food Bags for the new school year. This cart was loaded and ready to head inside so students could take food home for the weekend!

With Weekend Food Bags heading back into local schools, there are two ways you can support the Backpack Program this school year.

🎒Adopt a Child — just $24 provides one child with a Weekend Food Bag each week for an entire month.

Generosity in Action ⭐️ | East Alabama Community Foundation

We are so grateful to the East Alabama Community Foundation for awarding ACFS a $3,000 Community Trust Grant to support our Doorstep Program in Tallapoosa County. This funding will help cover critical food purchases for the 72+ pound food boxes delivered to homebound families and individuals.

Through the Doorstep Program, ACFS works alongside dedicated community partners like Pastor Freddie Senn of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church in Dadeville, who picks up food each month for families in his area. Together, we are able to bring reliable food support directly to the doorsteps of neighbors facing health, mobility, or transportation challenges.

Thank you, East Alabama Community Foundation, for helping us extend care and nourishment to families in Tallapoosa County! 🚚

☀️ Break Bites Summer Impact!

This summer, Break Bites has helped provide additional food support to hundreds of families with children while school is out.

In June, 571 families received food through the program, followed by 559 families in July. Families receive an average of 29 pounds of food, totaling approximately 32,770 pounds of food provided across June and July.

We are so thankful for our continued partnership with the Community Food Bank of Central Alabama, along with the donors and volunteers who help make Break Bites possible! 💛

Backpacks are going out, families are being served, and the warehouse is moving into a busy back-to-school season. 🍎

At ACFS, volunteers are part of how it all happens — packing weekend food bags, preparing food for distributions, organizing donations, and helping us serve children and families each week.

Here’s where we could use helping hands this week:

🤝 Monday, August 17 – Distribution Day
8:00 AM–12:00 PM
Monday is one of our biggest volunteer needs!

🎒 Tuesday, August 18 – Build a Bag Tuesday
8:00 AM–12:00 PM
Help pack weekend food bags for students to take home from school.

📦 Wednesday, August 19 – Prep & Sort
8:00 AM–12:00 PM

🤝 Thursday, August 20 – Distribution Day
8:00 AM–12:00 PM

📦 Friday, August 21 – Prep & Sort
8:00 AM–12:00 PM
Fridays are another big need as we prepare for the next Distribution Day.

✨ Evening of Impact: August is almost full, but our September 14 date is open for evening volunteers!

Whether you can serve for one shift or come back weekly, your time helps us start the school year strong. 💪
