The Feral Dogs of Avondale Mill

The Feral Dogs of Avondale Mill “FDOAM” is a dedicated group of volunteers desiring to create better lives for cats and dogs in our local area. It's been over 7 years since this journey began.

With the help of BFDR over 200 dogs were rescued from the old abandoned mill in Sylacauga, AL. Fast forward to 2017, Ron and Carolyn Morse along with Sylacauga Animal Shelter volunteers Mitzi Smith and Terri Brooks and fellow rescuer Sonja Chandler have incorporated and formed a 501(c)(3) to provide care and more help to all of the animals in the Sylacauga area. Together, we can accomplish more a

s already, as we move into 2022, 7500 homeless animals have moved to loving rescues while 3500 low cost spay and neuters have been provided to the community. Our hearts are dedicated to reducing the animals in need in this area. Please join us and the many other wonderful volunteers! The journey is still beginning!

🔥$5 Friday 🔥

This baby is Lucky and that’s what his name is now because he wandered into the right foster fence. Lucky because she was home and swooped him up and immediately asked for help. That’s where we came in. The vet thinks he was mauled by dogs. He has several locations that had to be stitched up. He was on fluids for 2 days and syringe fed and got antibiotics to get his strength up for surgery. He is full of stitches now. No broken bones but he has a long road to recovery. We could use your help we the vet bill. He will be looking for his forever home in a few weeks so let us know if you are interested in providing him a home. Estimated 4-5 months old. Naturally he is afraid of dogs now. Hoping he can learn to trust again.

$5 Friday! There are so many great dogs that are Heartworm positive at Sylacauga Animal Shelter! Heartworms are very deadly to dogs if not treated! A simple pill can prevent this and all dogs at shelter are on monthly preventable, but many came in positive. Here are just a few that are positive and several have been adopted. We even help treat if adopted with donations. The Heartworm process can be very expensive, so every donation is much appreciated to give them the best long life! So please donate any amount to help Lucy, Bernadette, and Bubba who have found homes and the many more waiting! Thank you to all who support us and the abandoned animals in our community!

🐈‍⬛ Got stray cats needing spay/neuter? Sorry this is longer, but please read all!

Before making a cat spay/neuter appointment, and for the safety of yourself, volunteers, vet staff, and the cat, have a plan in place.

First, you MUST know the cat’s socialization status. This determines whether you use a carrier or live trap. And no, those wire dog crates are not accepted.
One cat=one carrier or trap!

FRIENDLY cats go in a hard-sided CARRIER. The vouchers we sell for Alabama Spay Clinic are ONLY for the friendly kitties!

Friendly Stray Cats:
* Display signs of affection, such as purring or rubbing against legs. Cat must be easily picked up by bare hands. Think “adoptable pet”.

UNSOCIALIZED cats go in a TRAP. This is Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR). Vouchers are NOT valid for TNR.

Unfriendly Stray Cats:
* Display defensive behaviors, such as hissing or swatting if threatened. If you have concerns, or there is reasonable expectation anyone could be scratched or bitten, the cat must be trapped.

After carrier or trap question is settled, then set an appointment, and after kitties are “fixed”, congratulate yourself on a job well done! We salute those who choose to do the right thing!!

If you are unsure about determining what is needed, message us!

PS-do not wait if you are able to purchase a voucher at “regular“ prices. Our next sale will be sometime in June, but your cat could get pregnant or perhaps she is now and have kittens by then. Ain’t nobody got time for that!!
